Posting Information: We are currently hiring a Lead Coordinator Para Educator for the 2026-27 school year. This is a temporary position that will last for the duration of the school year. This position will remain open until filled. For best consideration applicants should apply by 10/2/2026.

Location: Evergreen Elementary

Schedule: Up to 20 additional hours to be paid at Step 3 of the Para Tech salary schedule in effect at the time the work is completed for supervisor approved work that occurs outside the employees regularly scheduled work day. Up to 5 paid release days for supervisor approved work that occurs during the employees regularly scheduled work day.

Salary:$1500 annual stipend to be paid in equal monthly installments from September to August (pro-rated for positions that start after the first day of school).

Overview

The Para Educator Lead supports a positive consistent and collaborative experience for para educators at an assigned worksite. The Lead serves as a peer resource by assisting with onboarding and mentoring sharing District procedures and resources helping facilitate communication and supporting para educator meetings and professional learning. The assignment is designed to strengthen para educator practice and connection.

Minimum Requirements

  • Must be a current Para Educator in Shelton School District with at least two years of successful Para Educator experience and assigned to the worksite the position is posted for
  • Experience mentoring onboarding training or supporting adult colleagues preferred (not required)
  • Knowledge of District procedures para educator professional standards student confidentiality and role boundaries
  • Experience supporting students with varied instructional behavioral communication or accessibility needs preferred (not required)
  • Demonstrated ability to build positive professional and trusting relationships with colleagues and administrators
  • Demonstrated strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to explain procedures and resources accurately while recognizing when questions should be referred to an administrator or different department
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality professional boundaries neutrality and discretion
  • Commitment to student-centered practices
  • Ability to organize information meetings mentoring activities and follow-up tasks
  • Willingness to participate in training and regular coordination meetings

Essential Functions

  • Collaborates with administration to create and implement onboarding plans for para educators new to the building
  • Provides peer mentoring modeling encouragement and practical assistance to para educators
  • Shares accurate information regarding District procedures resources expectations required training and professional learning opportunities
  • Helps para educators identify the appropriate person or department for questions that require administrative instructional special education payroll human resources or Association guidance
  • Assists with planning organizing and facilitating para educator meetings check-ins and professional learning activities
  • Gathers general themes resource needs and implementation questions and communicates them without disclosing confidential employee or student information
  • Promotes consistent understanding of para educator roles professional boundaries safety expectations confidentiality and student-support practices
  • Participates in Lead meetings and training coordinated by the Para Educator Lead Coordinator or District
  • Maintains appropriate records of onboarding mentoring contacts resources shared and program activities without creating evaluative personnel records
  • Continues to perform the essential functions of the employees regular para educator assignment
  • Performs other mutually agreed-upon peer-supported duties consistent with non-supervisory nature of the assignment
