Job Description
The Role:
The Paint Process Engineer/Tech Support will work autonomously with occasional guidance from supervision. Skilled in equipment/tooling alternatives sequence and flow of operations for the effective utilization of personnel material machines and facilities necessary for the production of parts. Work is performed in a centralized manufacturing engineering activity or assembly/plant activity where creativity and initiative are exercised as well as independent judgment. Will be responsible for a small crew of GM UAW hourly employees.
What Youll Do (Responsibilities):
SORs and project management for tools stations or specific technologies
Typically part of a larger effort or project
Manufacturing process definition
Sequence of operations
Support human factors consideration.
Support efficient material flow.
Design construction integration plant installation successful launch and continuous improvement of equipment and tools required in plants for the production of high-quality parts.
Providing technical directions to and oversight of outside vendor sources
Work may involve development and testing of advanced process technology.
Your Skills and Abilities (Required Qualifications):
Minimum of 1 year of experience with paint systems paint application processes or troubleshooting automated/robotic paint equipment.
Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to influence and drive results.
Ability to lead and manage a small team of hourly UAW employees in a manufacturing environment.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite including Excel Word PowerPoint and Outlook.
Flexibility to work any shift including weekends and overtime as required
What Can Give You a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications):
Bachelors degree in mechanical engineering Chemical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
Experience working as a Paint Process Engineer Paint Equipment Engineer or Paint Equipment Installer in a manufacturing environment.
Minimum of 3 years of experience with paint systems paint application processes and troubleshooting automated or robotic paint equipment.
Skilled Trades experience with a strong understanding of industrial maintenance equipment reliability and manufacturing processes.
Proficiency in Google Workspace (Sheets Docs Slides and Gmail).
Experience supporting high-volume manufacturing operations preferably within the automotive industry.
Knowledge of paint shop processes including E-coat primer basecoat clearcoat and paint quality systems.
Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional teams and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
