Role: Overnight Support SpecialistReports to:Program Manager Program: 1006- SOLARDepartment:Interim HousingLocation: South LA Recuperative Care Center (SOLAR) - 4200 East Compton Blvd. Compton CA 90221Setting:100% OnsiteSchedule: Sunday - Thursday 11pm - 7:30amStatus:Full-time/Non-Exempt/Non-ManagementBenefits:Medical Vision Dental Life Insurance 403(b) Retirement plan Employee Assistance Program (EAP) :1Summary:SOLAR is a HSH funded Recuperative Care Program serving individuals experiencing homelessness that also have medical issues. The Support Specialist is the first line of support and safety delegate for the Duties and Responsibilities:Act as the first point-of-contact for all immediate client needs and requests such as phone use linens water and oversee the floor including communal areas patios bathrooms dorms and showers ensuring program guidelines are upheld andthatthe physical site is well-maintained and safe including general cleaning be visible on the floor and actively engage and welcome regular thorough walk-throughs of the a supportive environment to ensure client progress towards relevant staff meetings trainings and retreats as client cubicle/bed area maintenance in a trauma-informed client engagement activities such as enrichment and life skills incident reports update shift logs and document in HMIS as needed and email relevant documents/updates before the end of each effective trusting relationships with clients and use a client-centered approach that includes motivational interviewing harm reduction and trauma-informed during crises to actively de-escalate situations with client and staff safety in mind using non-violent communications as part of a team to provide comprehensive integrated care to individuals experiencing homelessness mental illness and substance effectively and in a timely manner with management peers and maintain client confidentiality while following agency state and HIPAA duties as :High school/GED degreeMinimum one (1) year experience in related workPossess effective customer service skills and the ability to handle difficult situationsAbility to work independently and think criticallyAbility to act in a professional manner regardless of circumstancesCommitment to improving the community through empowerment and dignityFamiliarity with non-violent crisis interventionFamiliarity with issues faced by population servedAbility to self-motivate and to appropriately organize and motivate othersComputer literate; able to use computerized database system for information managementAbility to work as a team memberAble to obtain and maintain Food Handlers CPR and First Aid certificationsDemonstrate an ability to take initiative towards continued professional developmentPreferred Qualifications:Ability to communicate in a language other than English strongly preferredWork Environment:Combination of field and office environmentRegularly required to sit stand bend; occasionally lift or carry up to 35 occasion walk or drive to different local sitesWill necessitate working in busy and loud environmentsWill be exposed to elements like cold heat dust noise and odorMay need to bend stoop twist and sit throughout the day
