Join our team at The Up Center for a Graduate-level internship. We are seeking Masters level students in Clinical Mental Health or Social Work who are looking to complete at least two semesters of placement beginning January 2027. The position is largely based in the Ghent area of Norfolk with some flexibility to travel to Suffolk/ Western Tidewater. We offer clinical supervision and a dynamic opportunity for further clinical and skill development. The Up Center is a nonprofit United Way Community Partner that provides uniquely personal services to more than 10000 children families and individuals each year. The Up Center has one of the most service-integrated environments in Hampton Roads to support adults families and children in improving their lives through counseling.
DUTEIS: Under the direction of the Director of Outpatient Counseling Services and within the limitations of agency policy the incumbent shall execute the following duties:
Clinical Work:
- During day afternoon and evening hours provide direct clinical counseling to a diversified case load to include individuals couples families and co-facilitate psychoeducational groups. The number of clinical hours will vary depending on the requirements of each program and the clinical needs of the agency.
- Interns will be responsible for maintaining all correspondence notes paperwork 90 day reviews discharge summaries case management functions such as making referrals to other agencies some case-management collateral calls etc. for each assigned client.
- Interns will be required to learn our EHR system for documentation.
- All clinical notes will be due in a timely manner (within 24 hours of service) approved and signed by the interns clinical supervisor.
- Utilizes a variety of treatment modalities according to requirements of caseload.
- Video recordings of clinical sessions as required by supervisor/school
- Attend all group and individual supervision meetings as required.
- Make formal case presentations to clinical staff.
- Attending all trainings
- Seek out additional clinical information and training opportunities
Administrative Tasks:
- Provide research for theories/cases/modalities etc. as assigned.
- Assist with intake of clients including but not limited to returning calls gathering client demographic information taking walk-in intakes etc.
- Assist with data/collection for grants and outreach to communities
- Complete all evaluations as assigned by supervisor and school.
- Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Masters Level student at an accredited School for Counseling or Social Work.
- Grade Point average 3.0 or above.
- Knowledge of principles and practices of professional counseling and or social work including case work methods and techniques.
- Knowledge of the functions of social service agencies.
- Ability to work effectively with other professional disciplines.
- Two semester commitment.
- Communication skills including the ability to write case records letters and reports.
