Job Summary

Field-Based Iowa & Minnesota

Our client is seeking an experienced OSP Inspector / Site Surveyor to support Fiber-to-the-Home (FTTH) construction projects throughout Iowa and Minnesota. These are contract roles that last until approximately December and then pick back up in February or March depending on weather conditions. This role is responsible for performing field inspections site surveys construction observation and staking to ensure fiber-optic network deployments are completed safely accurately and in accordance with project specifications.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone with experience in outside plant construction utility infrastructure telecommunications or broadband deployment who enjoys working outdoors and traveling extensively.

Responsibilities
  • Perform field inspections and construction observation for aerial and underground fiber optic construction projects.
  • Conduct site surveys and staking activities utilizing GPS-enabled tablets and mapping software.
  • Document field conditions proposed construction and completed work using ArcGIS Online and other mobile data collection platforms.
  • Verify contractor workmanship and ensure installations meet engineering specifications quality standards and project requirements.
  • Interpret construction drawings staking sheets and RUS unit designations.
  • Provide field support by identifying and resolving construction conflicts and unforeseen conditions.
  • Coordinate with contractors project managers engineering teams and client representatives to maintain project schedules.
  • Capture accurate GPS locations and field data for engineering documentation.
  • Complete acceptance inspections and support project closeout documentation.
  • Maintain accurate daily reporting mileage expense documentation and field reports.
  • Utilize smartphones tablets GPS equipment laptops and other field technology to complete assigned work.
Expectations
  • Travel approximately 95%of the time throughout Iowa and Minnesota. Will be using own vehicle (Mileage and expenses paid)
  • Work outdoors in a variety of weather and terrain conditions.
  • Produce accurate documentation with minimal supervision.
  • Demonstrate strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Maintain a safe work environment and follow all company and client safety procedures.

Required Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in telecommunications utility construction military communications locating services or related infrastructure industries.
  • Experience reading engineering drawings and construction documents.
  • Working knowledge of ArcGIS Online or similar GIS mapping platforms.
  • Experience using tablets GPS equipment smartphones and other mobile field technology.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
  • Valid drivers license with a clean driving record.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and walk several miles daily over uneven terrain.
  • Willingness to travel extensively.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Technical school or vocational training in telecommunications engineering technology GIS surveying or a related field.
  • Experience with ArcGIS Field Maps.
  • Knowledge of Rural Utilities Service (RUS) construction units and standards.
  • Previous Fiber-to-the-Home (FTTH) deployment experience.
  • Experience working with broadband engineering or construction contractors.
