The Orthopedic Technician assists physicians in the application and management of casts and braces; provides instruction and assistance to resident physicians in cast splint and brace application; gives instruction on proper care of casts braces etc. to patients; provides instructions to rotating medical students; and assists with orders and maintains an adequate stock of orthopaedic supplies.

Salary offered commensurate with experience.

Minimum Qualifications:

• High School Diploma GED or formal education equivalent

• Minimum of one (1) year of direct patient care experience

• Ability to follow written instructions

PreferredQualifications:

• Experience as an Orthopedic Technician

• Orthopedic certification

Additional Information:

Responsibilities

• Provides professional and competent assistance to physicians with application and management of casts for patients with orthopaedic problems.

• Provides technical instruction to resident physicians and medical students in the area of application of orthopaedic devices.

• Ensures that casts splints etc. are properly fitted and educates patients on proper healthcare.

• Provides patients with instructions and teaching on their casts splint and/or brace following application.

• Provides coverage for the Orthopaedic Clinic patient care floors operating room and emergency room as requested.

• Will be required work in an on-call capacity as needed.

• Obtains necessary supplies and/or equipment for patient care in orthopaedic unit.

• Attends mandatory in-services and hospital staff meetings. Participates in orientation with new staff.

• Interacts with and assists the public in a professional and friendly manner as needed.

• Demonstrates effective communication skills; communicates accurate and complete information; maintains strict confidentiality when necessary.

• Demonstrates positive working relationships with co-workers management team and ancillary departments

• Follows the Core Concepts of Patient and Family Centered Care and the Basic Code of Conduct Guidelines

• Assists internal and external stakeholders as needed with exceptional customer service.

• May perform other duties as assigned.
