Job Summary
The Optometrist will perform routine procedures using independent professional judgment in the practice of optometry within the scope of the laws of the state of California the rules and regulations of the California Board of Optometry and the policies of Gracelight Community Health.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Supportand implementthe organizations vision mission and values.
- Determinepriorities and method of completing daily workload to ensure that all responsibilities are carried out in a timely manner.
- Performall job functions in a professional and courteous manner. This includes answering all phone calls and emails timely and providing excellent customer service to internal and external customers.
- Fosterand promotea culture of service excellence and accountability.
- Examinethe internal and external structure of the eyes to diagnose eye diseases like glaucoma cataracts and retinal disorders; systemic diseases like hypertension and diabetes; and vision conditions like nearsightedness farsightedness astigmatism and presbyopia. Optometrists also do testing to determine the patients ability to focus and coordinate eyes and to judge depth and see colors accurately.
- Prescribeeyeglasses contact lenses low vision aids vision therapy and medicines to treat eye diseases. Referappropriately where services are not provided by Gracelight Community Health or are outside scope of Optometrists.
- Examineand treat all patients scheduled to be seen by Optometry at Gracelight Community Health.
- Completethe patients charts in the Electronic Health Record system according to company policy.
- Participatein all departmental meetings.
- Superviseoptical staff to ensure accurate services are given.
- Communicatewith optical support staff management and fellow OD teams to optimize quality and clinical care and service to patients.
- Maintainall licensing and job requirements (CE CPR safety training PPD).
- Usediscretion and judgment in handling sensitive or confidential information answers all employee and client inquiries in a timely and courteous manner and listen to employee disputes and understands which decisions can be made alone and which decisions need to involve others.
- Complywith organizational policies and procedures.
- Performall other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
Completion of accredited four-year post-graduate degree program to earn their Doctor of Optometry (O.D.)
Current license with the State of California Board of Optometry; active DEA registration or ability to obtain.
At least two years of experience working as an Optometrist.
Experience in retinal screening routine eye exams glaucoma screening.
Availability at least 3 days/week.
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Ability to use computer for documentation of patient chart in Electronic Health Record system and general computer/internet skills for email communications or other duties as assigned.
