- Description
The Water Reclamation Facility Operator II is an intermediate-level skilled technical position responsible for the operation monitoring process control and routine maintenance of the Citys water reclamation treatment processes equipment and related facilities.
Under the supervision of the Water Reclamation Facility Superintendent or designated supervisor Operator II performs facility operations with an increased level of independence and responsibility. The employee is expected to demonstrate proficiency in treatment processes SCADA systems laboratory testing process control equipment operation preventive maintenance troubleshooting regulatory compliance and accurate operational recordkeeping.
This position is part of the Citys water reclamation operator career progression. Operator II is expected to continue developing advanced operational knowledge troubleshooting abilities and process-control skills while actively progressing toward higher-level State of Tennessee wastewater treatment operator certification.- Examples of Duties
Treatment Plant Operations
- Operates and monitors wastewater treatment and water reclamation processes in accordance with established procedures regulatory requirements and operational objectives.
- Starts stops adjusts and monitors pumps motors valves gates chemical-feed equipment and other treatment equipment necessary for proper facility operation.
- Monitors flow levels pressures dissolved oxygen solids chemical-feed rates and other process-control parameters and makes appropriate operational adjustments within established procedures.
- Responds to SCADA alarms equipment failures power interruptions high-flow events severe weather process upsets and other abnormal or emergency operating conditions.
- Performs facility rounds and evaluates the condition and performance of treatment processes pumps motors blowers valves gates filters clarifiers chemical-feed systems instrumentation and other facility equipment.
- Identifies equipment deficiencies and abnormal operating conditions initiates appropriate corrective actions within the employees level of authority and reports significant conditions to supervisory personnel.
- Performs preventive maintenance equipment inspections and minor mechanical repairs and assists in troubleshooting pumps motors valves chemical-feed equipment instrumentation and other facility systems.
- Performs facility rounds and evaluates the condition and performance of treatment processes pumps motors blowers valves gates filters clarifiers chemical-feed systems instrumentation and other facility equipment.
- Identifies equipment deficiencies and abnormal operating conditions initiates appropriate corrective actions within the employees level of authority and reports significant conditions to supervisory personnel.
- Performs preventive maintenance equipment inspections and minor mechanical repairs and assists in troubleshooting pumps motors valves chemical-feed equipment instrumentation and other facility systems
- Operates SCADA and computerized control systems and interprets alarms trends instrumentation laboratory results and operating data to evaluate treatment performance.
- Uses laboratory results SCADA information operational observations and process data to evaluate treatment conditions and assist with process-control decisions.
- Monitors flow levels pressures dissolved oxygen solids chemical-feed rates and other process-control parameters and makes appropriate operational adjustments within established procedures.
- Collects wastewater process solids and effluent samples and performs required laboratory and process-control analyses.
- Operates cleans calibrates and maintains laboratory process-control and field-testing equipment.
- Uses laboratory results SCADA information operational observations and process data to evaluate treatment conditions and assist with process-control decisions.
- Maintains complete and accurate operating logs laboratory results equipment records inspections chemical-use records maintenance information and other required documentation.
- Performs preventive maintenance equipment inspections and minor mechanical repairs.
- Assists in troubleshooting pumps motors valves chemical-feed equipment instrumentation and other facility systems.
- Identifies equipment deficiencies and abnormal operating conditions.
- Initiates appropriate corrective actions within the employees level of authority.
- Reports significant conditions to supervisory personnel.
- Assists with chemical deliveries.
- Safely handles transfers stores and monitors treatment chemicals and operational supplies.
- Cleans and maintains tanks clarifiers filters channels equipment buildings work areas and facility grounds.
- Performs grounds maintenance.
- Safely operates mowers lawn equipment skid steers and other equipment necessary for facility operations and maintenance.
- Responds to SCADA alarms.
- Responds to equipment failures and power interruptions.
- Responds to high-flow events and severe weather.
- Responds to process upsets and other abnormal or emergency operating conditions.
- Performs duties in accordance with applicable environmental regulations safety requirements City policies and established operating procedures.
- Safely handles treatment chemicals and operational supplies.
- Reinforces established operating and safety procedures as assigned.
- Assists less-experienced operators with routine operational tasks.

Perform other related duties as assigned.- Typical Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Must possess and maintain a valid Tennessee drivers license
- Employees are encouraged and may be required as part of career progression to pursue applicable State of Tennessee Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator certification.
- Additional safety or operational certifications may be required based on assigned duties.
Additional Requirements:- Valid drivers license.
- Successful completion of a background investigation.
- Must be able to work rotating shifts weekends holidays overtime on-call and emergency assignments as required to maintain continuous facility operations.
- Stand and walk for extended periods on level uneven wet or slippery surfaces.
- Bend stoop kneel crouch reach push pull grasp and perform repetitive movements.
- Climb and descend stairs and ladders and access equipment located above or below grade.
- Safely use hand tools power tools and treatment equipment.
- Work in confined spaces and elevated areas when properly trained and equipped.
- Wear required personal protective equipment.
- Lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
- Safely operate City vehicles and equipment.
Work is performed throughout the Water Reclamation Facility and related utility facilities in both indoor and outdoor employee regularly works in a wastewater treatment environment and may be exposed to wastewater biological hazards treatment chemicals fumes odors airborne particles dust extreme noise moving mechanical equipment electrical hazards wet or slippery surfaces uneven terrain confined spaces elevated work areas extreme heat extreme cold and inclement weather.- Supplemental Information
