Operations Supervisor Barge

About the Role

At LDC our Operations Supervisors are at the center of our export operationsensuring the safe efficient and accurate movement of grain through our facilities. This role is based in Port Allen LA supporting a high-capacity export elevator and working a 12-hour rotating day/night shift to support a 24/7 operation.

Were looking for a hands-on team-oriented leader who thrives in a fast-paced environment and can balance people leadership systems management and operational execution. Success in this role requires strong attention to detail discipline around documentation and the ability to work closely across teams to keep operations running smoothly.

What Youll Be Responsible For:

Operational Coordination (Barge & Truck Movement)

• Oversee inbound and outbound grain movement across barge and truck operations
• Coordinate daily logistics including unloading loading and product flow
• Ensure correct routing of commodities to bins and inventory systems
• Act as the central communication point between operators drivers and fleet teams

Systems & Documentation Management (Critical to Success)

• Accurately input and manage operational data in systems such as GMS TowWorks and DPR
• Maintain real-time visibility of inventory barge status and product grades
• Ensure all tickets grading information and shipment documentation are complete and accurate
• Identify and resolve discrepancies quickly to prevent operational delays

This role requires strong systems capability and a high level of ownership over documentation accuracy.

People Leadership & Team Environment

• Lead coach and support hourly employees and contractors in daily operations
• Foster a collaborative team-first environment across shifts and functions
• Reinforce accountability safety standards and operational expectations
• Partner closely with maintenance logistics and leadership teams

Safety & Facility Oversight

• Champion a strong safety culture through inspections audits and daily oversight
• Ensure compliance with all company environmental and safety standards
• Coordinate maintenance activities and issue permits as needed
• Lead safety meetings and ensure adherence to all procedures

Qualifications :

What You Bring:

Education/Professional Certifications/Licenses 

Basic qualifications: 

• High school diploma or GED 

• Valid Drivers license 

• Valid TWIC Card 

Preferred qualifications: 

• College degree in a related discipline (industrial/maritime/agriculture curriculum) 

• Some continuing education (e.g. industrial safety and environmental related subjects) 

Required Qualifications

• 2 years of experience in industrial manufacturing or bulk logistics operations
• Understanding of logistics (e.g. vessel rail or truck) and inventory management  
• Demonstrated people leadership experience in a team-based environment
• Strong proficiency working in systems and managing operational data
• Proven ability to maintain accurate documentation and operational records
• Strong communication and coordination skills across teams
• High attention to detail and strong time management

Preferred

• Experience in grain handling agriculture or bulk commodities
• Exposure to control room or logistics coordination environments
• Knowledge of grain grading USDA standards or similar
• Safety training or familiarity with OSHA standards

• Typical office equipment: PC telephone fax/scanner/copy machine mobile phone truck/rail scales bulk material handling equipment 

Working Conditions 

Portions of the day will be spent in a climate-controlled office environment. The majority of the work day will be spent outside with routine visits to operational areas resulting in exposure to a variety of temperatures and prevailing weather conditions.  This may also result in exposure to dust odors gases vapors wet or slick surfaces and loud noises.  Where appropriate wears personal protective equipment (PPE) in compliance with Company standards and governmental regulations. May require climbing fixed ladders or stairs boarding cargo ships walking on loading docks which may be wet.   The extension of regular working hours or non-working days is occasionally necessary to complete time-sensitive projects attend training or respond to emergencies.  Additionally work may be required on weekends and holidays as dictated by business demands.  Requires rotating shifts (7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. or 7:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m.) or (6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. or 6:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m.) 

Employee Supervision 

• Directly or indirectly supervises up to 17 employees including barge crew truck unloading and housekeeping employees grain inspection personnel and occasionally mechanics and electricians. 

Decision Making/Accountability 

• Accountable for all actions in unloading barges and unloading and loading trucks within the facility during scheduled shift. Schedules production and communicates information for upcoming shift (proper relief). Manages elevator grain quality and space. Coordinates truck and barge requirements with the local farmers and barge line.  

Safety Health & Environmental Responsibilities 

• Maintains good working knowledge of SHE policies rules and procedures applicable to area of responsibility and ensures all applicable requirements are adhered to. Ensures employees are provided required training for area and jobs and tasks prior to assigning work. Ensures area of responsibility is maintained in orderly and safe manner. Promptly reports unsafe working conditions to management and communicates potential hazards to affected employees. Promptly reports all incidents to management and conducts incident investigation as soon as practicable; no later than 24 hours from time of incident.
