Are you passionate about patient care and looking to build a rewarding career in healthcare Join Mercy St. Louis as a Patient Care Technician (PCT) in our OB Emergency Department where youll play a vital role in supporting mothers babies and families during some of lifes most important moments.
Whether youre an experienced caregiver CNA EMT Paramedic or someone looking to start a healthcare career Mercy offers training mentorship and opportunities for growth.
As a Patient Care Technician youll work alongside nurses and healthcare professionals to deliver exceptional patient care and create a safe compassionate environment.
Assisting patients with personal hygiene and daily care needs
Supporting mobility ambulation repositioning and patient comfort
Monitoring and documenting vital signs and patient information in the electronic medical record
Assisting with admissions discharges and patient transfers
Collecting specimens and performing point-of-care testing as assigned
Observing and reporting changes in patient conditions
Supporting patient safety initiatives and infection prevention practices
Performing clerical duties including answering phones and monitoring unit communication systems
With additional training and competency validation PCTs may assist with:
- Blood cultures
- Enteral tube feeding
- Wound care and non-sterile dressing changes
- IV removal
- Chest tube setup
- Suture tray setup
- Visual acuity assessments
- Pelvic exam setup
- Burn dressing changes and debridement
- Whirlpool wound care treatments

- High School Diploma or GED
- CNA CPCT healthcare career program student OR
- Age 18 and eligible for Mercys UAP Training Program
- BLS Certification within one month of hire
- Completion of PCT competencies within three months of hire
No problem. Mercy provides a 175-hour state-approved training program during orientation for qualified candidates with no prior healthcare experience.
- Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA)
- Emergency Medical Technician (EMT)
- Paramedic
- Certified Patient Care Technician (CPCT)
- Advanced Unlicensed Assistant (AUA)
- Previous patient care experience
This role requires the ability to:
- Lift push and pull up to 50 pounds regularly
- Stand and walk for extended periods
- Bend kneel squat twist reach and grip throughout the shift
