Main Purpose of Job
The main purpose of this full-time contractual position is to provide professional public health nutrition services in support of the Kent County Health Departments Chronic Disease Nutrition and Built Environment Grant. This position will be responsible for planning implementing coordinating and evaluating evidence-based nutrition initiatives designed to prevent and reduce chronic disease and improve health outcomes through nutrition education policy systems and environmental strategies.

This position will work collaboratively with local governments health care providers schools community organizations food access partners and other stakeholders to improve access to nutritious foods promote healthy eating behaviors support chronic disease prevention efforts and advance built environment initiatives that encourage healthier lifestyles. This position will serve as a subject matter expert in community nutrition and provide nutrition assessment education technical assistance program evaluation and grant-related reporting to support achievement of grant objectives.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Determined by the Maryland State Board of Dietetic Practice under the licensing requirements for Nutritionists and Dietitians.

Experience: Two years of experience providing professional nutrition or dietetic services.

1. Candidates may substitute the possession of a Masters degree in Public Health Community Health or Nutrition from an accredited college or universityfor one year of the required experience.

may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military serviceexperience as a commissioned officer in Dietitian and Nutritionistclassification or Dietitian and Nutritionist specialty codes in the Dietitian field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
The desired candidate should possess the following:

1. Experience in chronic disease prevention community nutrition public health programming health promotion or related fields.

2. Experience planning implementing and evaluating community-based health and nutrition programs focused on chronic disease prevention and management.

3. Experience with and/or working knowledge of evidence-based practices related to diabetes hypertension cardiovascular disease obesity prevention healthy eating and food security initiatives.
LICENSES REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

1. Candidates for positions in this classification must possess a current license as a Dietitian/Nutritionist from the Maryland State Board of Dietetic Practice 4201 Patterson Avenue Baltimore Maryland 21215 prior to permanent appointment.

2. Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operators license valid in the State of Maryland.

SELECTION PROCESS

BENEFITS
Contractual employees who work for an agency covered under the State Employee and Retiree Health and Welfare Benefits Program have a current employment contract and work 30 or more hours a week (or on average 130 hours per month) may be eligible for subsidized health benefits coverage for themselves and their dependents. As a contractual employee you will be responsible for paying 25% of the premiums for your medical and prescription coverage including any eligible dependents you have enrolled. The State of Maryland will subsidize the remaining 75% of the cost for these benefits.

You can also elect to enroll in dental coverage accidental death and dismemberment insurance and life insurance but will be responsible to pay the full premium for these benefits.

Leave may be granted to a contractual employee who has worked 120 days in a 12-month period. This leave accrues at a rate of one hour for every 30 hours worked not to exceed 40 hours per calendar year.
