The Virginia Department of Health (VDH) is dedicated to protecting and promoting the health of Virginians. The VDH is made up of a statewide Central Office in Richmond and 32 local health districts. At the Hampton Wilsondale Clinic we believe WIC is more than a food assistance program; its nutrition education breastfeeding support encouragement connection and compassionate care for women infants and children up to age five.
We are looking for twoNutritionist Assistants who are organized dependable and team-oriented. These roles support a fast-paced clinic while helping connect families to nutrition breastfeeding and community resources.
What Youll Do:
- Welcome and assist families in a busy fast-paced clinic environment
- Schedule appointments send reminders and help maintain clinic flow and daily operations
- Collect and document eligibility and health information while following WIC processing standards
- Issue eWIC cards and explain WIC services benefits and participant responsibilities
- Promote breastfeeding through supportive interactions referrals and community outreach
- Answer phone calls and emails professionally and in a timely manner
- Measure height weight and collect hemoglobin (job training provided)
- Use electronic health records Excel and other systems to maintain accurate records
- Adapt to changing clinic needs while working collaboratively with staff to support families and clinic operations

Under the guidance of a Nutritionist and/or Nutritionist Associate obtains health and diet information from clients and provides low risk nutrition education according to protocols developed by Nutritionist. Independently schedules WIC appointments maintains WIC records compiles WIC reports secures and verifies information needed for WIC income eligibility determination. Instructs clients about program guidelines and assists with WIC draft distribution.
This is a restricted position funded solely through the WIC Grant for a oneyear period ending September 30. Funding availability is reviewed annually and periodically thereafter. Continuation of employment is contingent upon the ongoing availability of these funds.

Minimum Qualifications
Demonstrated ability to: interview clients & collect client information; interpret document calculate & compile routine data; routinely obtain blood sample/finger stick from infants children and women; provide patient education
Knowledge and skills with computers and software i.e. Crossroads internal webmail
Some knowledge of basic nutrition and nutritional standards
Must be able to communicate and interact with a variety of patients and work effectively as a member of a health care team
Additional Considerations
Additional training or course work in dietetics food services or a related field
Some experience in food production or in a nutrition program
