Nutrition Services Cook

PURPOSE STATEMENT

This position will prepare and serve nutritious and attractive meals for students and staff while maintaining sanitary conditions of the school dining and kitchen facilities for all meals provided by the Nutrition Services Department.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

1. Prepare cook wrap and pan up food items according to standard menus recipes and instructions.
2. Complete production records and reports.
3. Monitor and record food and kitchen equipment temperatures daily.
4. Set up salad bars serving tables and warming carts for serving meals
5. Assist in filling condiment containers; set up utensils napkins trays and other serving items before food arrives.
6. Serve meals and ala carte items to students and staff; serve appropriate quantities; present foods attractively; assist students in assembling meals on trays.
7. Operate the point-of-sale system for meal service and ala carte sales receive payments and assist in cash reconciliation.
8. Participate in the cleaning of the kitchen equipment and food storage areas assuring that standards of sanitation and safety are met.
9. Wash dishes and pot/pans.
10. Assist in determining quantities and variety of food to be prepared in accordance to the multi-entrée offer vs. serve variety bar and ala carte format.
11. Assist in placing orders weekly for food items and supplies with Kitchen Manager and the Director of Nutrition Services; maintain accurate inventory records necessary to ensure supplies are available for assigned menus.
12. Assist in placing food in serving carts and oven according to proper food handling procedures.
13. Maintain professional attitude and appearance in the work place.

OTHER FUNCTIONS

1. Move into serving Kitchen Manager position when capable and necessary.
2. May serve on various district committees and/or departmental work teams.
3. Perform related duties consistent with the scope and intent of the position.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS

Reports to the Nutrition Services Director. Receives direction and guidance from the building Kitchen Manager as appropriate.

MENTAL DEMANDS

• Required to work with students and staff in a positive and service oriented manner.
• Must perform job tasks under strict deadlines.
• May experience shifts in work schedule according to the departments

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

• Required to stand for prolonged periods of time.
• Ability to lift and/or move up to fifty (50) pounds.
• Must be able to perform tasks requiring moderate to heavy physical exertion.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience

• High School diploma or GED.
• State of Washington Food and Beverage Service Workers Permit issued by a County-City Health Department.
• Experience as nutrition services kitchen assistant or other related food service experience.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

• Accurate record keeping skills.
• Skill in menu planning food production and serving in large quantities.
• Knowledge of sanitation and safety standards and procedures.
• Knowledge and ability in cash handling. .
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students staff and the public.

Licenses/Special Requirements

• Requires fingerprinting and background check to determine that there have been no convictions involving physical molestation abuse injury or neglect of a minor.
• Must complete Walla Walla Public Schools Risk Management and Bloodborne Pathogens Training upon hire.

7.5 hours per day 5 days per week 189 days per school year; PSE Salary Schedule 9 Holidays Paid Sick Leave
