About the Role

The Nursing Director for Labor and Delivery is responsible for planning organizing and directing resources for one to two departments on a 24-hour basis. This leadership role ensures efficient resource utilization staff recruitment and management quality outcomes and compliance with regulatory standards. The Director plays a key role in fostering positive relationships with staff medical teams and system departments while driving performance improvement initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

  • General Management
    • Develop and manage annual operating and capital budgets.
    • Direct daily operations and staff performance.
    • Ensure compliance with regulatory agencies.
    • Communicate effectively across all organizational levels.
  • Personnel Management
    • Recruit hire and promote staff.
    • Provide coaching counseling and performance evaluations.
    • Minimize turnover and foster employee engagement.
    • Support professional development and competency growth.
  • Department Leadership
    • Collaborate with medical staff to promote patient outcomes.
    • Utilize data and statistical analysis for decision-making.
    • Redesign workflows for efficiency and quality improvement.
    • Lead performance improvement and case management initiatives.

Qualifications

  • Education:
    • Minimum: Bachelors Degree in Nursing
    • Preferred: Masters Degree in Nursing Business or related field
  • Experience:
    • Minimum: 5 years in labor and delivery or specialty discipline
    • Preferred: 3 5 years of progressive management experience
  • Licensure & Certifications:
    • Current Texas RN license required
    • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required (AHA within 60 days of hire)
    • Specialty or administration certification preferred
