Nurse Practitioner Pre-Anesthesia Testing

Job Summary
The Nurse Practitioner (NP) Pre-Anesthesia Testing is responsible for conducting comprehensive preoperative evaluations to assess medically optimize and prepare patients prior to surgery. This role collaborates closely with anesthesiologists surgeons and physicians specializing in perioperative and surgical care as well as perioperative leadership to support patient readiness reduce day-of-surgery delays or cancellations and promote safe efficient high-quality surgical outcomes.
Requirements:
- Requires Masters degree in Nursing
- Current state licensure as a Nurse Practitioner
- ACLS/BLS Certifications
- Minimum of one year of nurse practitioner experience
- Pre-anesthesia testing and/or acute care experience highly preferred
Responsibilities of the position include but are not limited to:
- Perform comprehensive pre-anesthesia history and physical examinations in accordance with established protocols
- Evaluate medical comorbidities medications anesthesia history and perioperative risk factors. Apply risk stratification tools and ASA
- classification in collaboration with anesthesia as required
- Order and interpret diagnostic tests within the scope of practice and organizational guidelines
- Identify patients requiring additional evaluation or specialty consultation. Escalate high-risk findings to anesthesia or procedural
- physicians as appropriate
- Facilitate pre-surgical medical optimization using evidence-based perioperative guidelines to improve surgical readiness and reduce
- procedural risk. Recommend medication adjustments per established protocols and coordinate specialty referrals diagnostic follow-up
- and management of identified medical concerns prior to surgery.
- Complete accurate and timely documentation in the electronic medical record in accordance with CMS accreditation standards and
- organizational policy. Ensure preoperative documentation meets required timing and content standards
- Collaborate with anesthesiologists surgeons and perioperative teams to support patient readiness. Communicate findings that may
- impact scheduling or procedural planning
- Participate in the development and maintenance of Pre-Anesthesia Testing protocols
- Support performance improvement initiatives focused on patient safety risk reduction and operational efficiency. Monitor compliance
- with preoperative assessment standards.
- Educate patients on anesthesia preparation medication management fasting requirements and perioperative expectations.
Schedule:
Full-time; Monday - Friday
Pay Range:
$49.10 - $81.02 base pay per hour based on experience
