Nuclear Medicine Technologist Supervisor

LEADERSHIP/SUPERVISION

Supervises employees in their daily work assignments:

• Monitors and ensures equitable distribution of workload and work assignments for employees.

• Responsible for training of staff; maintains appropriate documentation for instruction equipment orientation and department competencies.

• Coaches and instructs the technologist as necessary in correct performance of department procedures image quality patient positioning and proper use of equipment.

• Encourages teamwork and cooperation; facilitates a positive work environment.

Responsible for the workflow in the department:

• Organizes the schedule according to the degree of urgency and or acuity level.

• Maintains patient waiting times to a minimum by exercising appropriate planning and organization to achieve maximum utilization of resources that are assigned.

• Maintains flexibility in the daily routine in order to handle the unexpected problem.

• Monitors the schedules and maintains adequate staffing.

• Follows procedures from one shift to another for coverage of sick and tardiness.

• Assigns lunch and break relief.

Working supervisor assists with procedures and patient care:

• Demonstrates expertise on all nuclear medicine equipment in the department.

• Current on all procedures; monitors quality of exams performed and makes adjustments when needed.

• Maintains equipment troubleshoots problems as needed.

• Coordinates patient examinations that have special circumstances and/or multiple examinations that have to interface with other radiology sections or departments.

• Responds to inquiries and/or requests; communicates information to coordinate and/or facilitate the departments services.

• Facilitates patient transport.

• Responds appropriately to complaints and/or issues from both internal and external customers to include patients and other sections or departments.

Integration of Everyday PRIDE service standards for staff communication and behavior:

• Participates in the recruitment and onboarding process for new employees.

• Completes written performance appraisals in a timely manner.

• Reviews and evaluates job performances on an ongoing basis communicates job performance issues to employee and to the Chief in a timely manner.

• Works with the Chief to implement the disciplinary action process in a timely manner.

• Maintains current licenses and certifications for all technologists.

ADHERES TO POLICIES AND PROCEDURES

• Utilizes proper body mechanics to ensure patient safety upon moving and/or transferring patients and equipment.

• Follows established radiation safety guidelines. Uses appropriate patient shielding.

• Follows established department and hospital guidelines for attendance and tardiness.

• Adheres to all hospital and department policies and procedures. Remains current and compliant with all safety policies reviewed on the Medical Center Annual Safety Training module located in the online UC Learning Center link: to all radiation safety policies and procedures.

• Provides excellent customer service to patients co-workers physicians and other departments.

• Assures that work environment is clean and in compliance with infection control and environmental health and safety standards.

• Is a role model by maintaining a professional neat appearance and adhering to the department dress code policy always displaying hospital identification badge.

• Adheres to the Society of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging (SNMMI) Nuclear Medicine Technologist Scope of Practice and Performance Standards:

• to the Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB) Code of Ethics and American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) Nuclear Medicine Technologist Standards of Ethics:

• to the American Society of Radiologic Technologists (ASRT) Practice Standards for Nuclear Medicine and Computed Tomography.

INFORMATION MANAGEMENT

• Demonstrates competency in the Radiology Information System and related downtime procedure to include the proper scheduling and completion of patient exams.

• Demonstrates competency in the Medical Centers current Electronic Health Record and ordering systems.

• Demonstrates competency on the Nuclear Medicine systems.

• Ensures clinical data is correct and appropriate for specific procedures being requested. Verifies order in APEX prior to starting every procedure.

• Demonstrates competency in the Radiology PACS system and related downtime procedure.

• Completes all exams in the radiology computer system following the procedure.

• Demonstrates knowledge of the Incident Reporting System.

• Utilizes hospital/department computer for hospital business only and logs off computers upon completion of tasks.

DEVELOPMENT

• Assumes responsibility and accountability for own professional growth and practice. Attends assigned staff development activities.

• Participates in cross training activities when necessary.

• Recognizes and performs duties which need to be performed although not directly assigned.

• Stays current with the technical changes in the field of Nuclear Medicine and Radiology by attending professional meetings seminars or by participating in other learning activities related to the field.

• Complies with the department expectations and standards.

• Complies with current ARRT NMTCB and CA state accreditation regulations related to continuing education (CE) requirements.

PERFORMANCE IMPROVEMENT

• Assures that the performance and documentation of the Daily Monthly or Annual Quality Control tests are complete and accurate. Reports any non-compliance to the appropriate resource.

• Participates in clinical and research protocol development maintenance improvement and implementation.

• Ensures that appropriate documentation occurs and reporting of incidents in a timely manner regarding patients employees and physicians. This includes patient and employee injuries.

• Participates in and encourages staff participation in the departments Performance Improvement activities.

BUDGETARY

• Responsible for maintaining adequate level of supplies in the department. Orders supplies when necessary.

• Responsible for knowledge and compliance with the budget and staffing standards.

• Processes invoices and maintains payment records for the department.

• Identifies opportunities for cost containment.

• Communicates any suggestions to increase productivity or quality of work.

• Assures patient information and billing codes are appropriate. At the end of the shift all billing is complete.

OTHER FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Performs other duties as assigned within the general scope of job training and licensure.
