The Nuclear Medicine Technologist Level IIisresponsible forperforming complex diagnostic and therapeutic procedures in Nuclear Medicine through the operations ofdiagnostic imagingequipment to obtain highest quality of diagnostic images with the least amount of radiation exposure.Administersdiagnostic and therapeutic radiopharmaceuticals and other associated medications as part of the approved protocols qualitycontroland radiation protection.Independent judgementingenuityand initiative are essential in addition to responsibility for designated areasproceduresand equipment.Supervises the day-to-day operations in the absence ofmodalityChief Technologist or Radiology Manager.

CORE JOB FUNCTIONS

Coordinate/manage scheduling and patient flow for interdepartmental procedures.

Supervises as well as performs diagnostic imaging studies under the direction/supervision of a radiologist.

Assistwith the education and training of new physicians.

Assistradiologists and PhDs in developing new protocols and Nuclear Medicine imaging techniques that are unique to facility.

Participate in research initiatives and development of research protocols.

Act in a team leader capacity on a routine basis.

Monitor charging of Nuclear Medicine procedures and supplies daily to ensure correctness.

Demonstrate Nuclear Medicine equipment for sitevisitsfor visitingphysicians and administrators.

Provide in-service classes insection.

Obtains and examines the order for a Nuclear Medicine scan to be aware of information such as procedures requested patients condition and any other special notes or comments.

Ensures that orders areappropriate tothe type of exam recommended by physician.Notifies supervisor of any discrepancies and/or contacts physicians office for correct orders if necessary.

Identifiespatient service requirements byestablishingpersonal rapport with potential and actual patients and other persons in a position to understand service requirements.

Verify the patients ID by checking their name and date of birth on electronic medicalrecordand patients wristband.

Always obtain necessary consents and education.

Perform complex specialized tasks associated with the operation ofNuclear Medicinescanners and related equipmentin accordance withprescribed radiation safety procedures under the direction/supervision of a Radiologist usingage appropriatestandards of practice.

Ability to integrate diagnostic laboratory results patienthistoryand medical records and adaptexamas necessary.Adheres to Nuclear MedicineRadiopharmaceuticalsand Radio Isotopes protocols to maintainhigh qualitystandards.

Consistentlydemonstratescomplete competence in performing Nuclear Medicine scans as ordered.

As required during a procedureassistspositioning patients in required anatomical position for display of body for Nuclear Medicine scans using immobilization and protectiveequipmentas necessary.

Maintainproper aseptictechniqueutilizinguniversal precaution guidelines (hand washing glovesgownmask eyeprotectionand equipment disinfection).

Assistradiologist with imaging procedures starting IVs and injecting contrast if applicable.

Assistradiologist with interventional Nuclear Medicine procedures.

Evaluate Nuclear Medicine scans for technical quality collate processed images in sequence of exposure andappropriatelylabel. Film/transmitto PACS.

Schedule patients for procedures;assistwith clerical functions.

Charge procedures and supplies inUChart/Radiant.

Dispenseradiopharmaceuticals orally as per approved protocol.

Load andoperatepower injectors for contrast media administration.

Maintainaccuratepatient records.

Provide assistancewith orientation and trainingofnew Nuclear MedicineTechnologists.

Gains patient cooperation by reducing anxieties; providing explanations of treatment; answering questions.

Provide education and training to student technologists.

Applies physical age-specific and/or developmental care needs of patients according to their documented physical/development requirement by competency validation checklist:

Children

Adolescents

Adults

Geriatric

Challenged/Disabled

Performs basic nursing functions in the patients care i.e.assistswith bedpans emesis basinsetc.Assumes care for physical and psychological needs of the patient during scanning procedures; initiates life support measures for patients if necessary;assistsin Code Blue procedure during medical emergencies.Performs CPR as needed.

Keeps work area in a clean and sanitary condition and stocks exam/dressing rooms with required supplies.

Provides oncall coverage.

Reports unusual findingsin a timely mannertoappropriate Radiologist/Supervisorypersonnel.

Abideby tohospital/department HR policies.

Adheres to any regulatory body guidelines governing modality including but not limited to: Joint Commission AHCA ACR FL DOH and FDA/MQSA.

DEPARTMENTSPECIFICFUNCTIONS

For those locations that perform Bone Mineral Density exams (BMD) in the Nuclear Medicine department the Technologist mustpossessa valid State of Florida General Radiographer or Basic X-Ray Machine Operator license within one year of hire.

CORE QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

High School diploma or equivalent.Graduate of a Nuclear Medicine Technology accredited program.

Certification and Licensing:

NMTCB or ARRT-N registered.Mustpossessa valid State of Florida License as a Nuclear Medicine Technologist.CPR and BLS certification.

Experience:

Three (3) yearsof relevant experience.
