Non-Certified Ophthalmic Assistant I

Ophthalmic Assistants provide vision care under the supervision of a licensed ophthalmologist andassistwith taking patient histories performing diagnostic tests and procedures patient scheduling and exam room preparation.

A caregiver in this position works 7:30am to 5:00pm.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:

• Receive and prepare patients for examination or treatment.

• Perform initial patient examinations ophthalmic testingproceduresand routine screening tests.

• Assistphysicians with examinations and procedures.

• Document patient informationintheir medical record.

• Perform clerical stockingmaintenanceand related duties.

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

• High school diploma or GED.
• Minimum of one year experience in an ophthalmic setting providing direct patient care - NOTE - patient care in a non-ophthalmic setting can not be considered for this requirement
• Additional formal education or training in ophthalmology may substitute for some or all of the stated experience

• Knowledge of medical terminology.

Physical Requirements:

• Manual dexterity to operate office equipment and PC.
• Ability to lift and transport up to 25 pounds.
• May require extended periods of standing walking or sitting.
• Visual acuity including the ability to distinguish colors.

Personal Protective Equipment:

• Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
