For the 26-27 school year positions will be assigned to Narragansett Elementary School and special education. Working alongside teachers and related service providers paraprofessionals help create safe welcoming and engaging learning environments where every student is encouraged to grow develop independence and reach their full Duties and ResponsibilitiesAssist teachers in implementing classroom instruction facilitating daily learning activities and preparing instructional materials and technology to support student one-on-one and small-group instructional support to reinforce students academic social behavioral communication and functional skill the implementation of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) accommodations behavior support plans and instructional strategies under the direction of certified student independence self-confidence positive behavior and self-advocacy through consistent encouragement respectful interactions and evidence-based support students with communication mobility personal care feeding toileting hygiene and other activities of daily living in accordance with district policies student plans and safety effectively to the changing needs of students instructional settings schedules and assignments while maintaining flexibility patience and a positive student-centered and support students in a variety of school settings including classrooms lunch recess arrival and dismissal field trips community-based instruction vocational experiences and other school-sponsored effectively with teachers administrators related service providers and families communicating student progress concerns and successes in a professional and respectful manner as strict confidentiality of student records information and interactions in accordance with district policies and all applicable state and federal laws including students from pre-kindergarten through post-graduate transition programs in developing the academic social functional vocational and independent living skills needed to achieve their individual an inclusive safe and supportive learning environment that values the dignity strengths and diverse needs of every other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the supervising teacher or administrator in support of student success and district Associate degree completion of at least two years of post-secondary coursework or successful completion of a state-approved paraprofessional assessment (ParaPro Assessment) as required by Rhode Island certification working with children in an educational childcare or youth-serving setting ability to build positive respectful relationships with students families and verbal and written communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively as a member of a multidisciplinary educational to support students with diverse academic social emotional behavioral communication and physical needs with patience compassion and to maintaining confidentiality and adhering to all district policies and applicable state and federal flexibility reliability and the ability to adapt to changing student needs schedules and proficiency with computers and educational technology including common productivity applications (e.g. Google Workspace ) and the willingness to learn student assistive to follow directions implement instructional and behavioral support plans under the supervision of certified staff and work independently when to perform the physical requirements of the position which may include lifting positioning assisting with mobility and providing personal care to students as needed in accordance with district policies and Skills and AbilitiesKnowledge of child development age-appropriate instructional practices and positive classroom management to follow teacher direction and effectively implement instructional plans behavior support strategies accommodations and classroom patience flexibility resilience and a positive student-centered approach when supporting students with diverse learning and behavioral to work effectively with students from diverse cultural linguistic socioeconomic and educational backgrounds including students with a wide range of abilities and organizational time management and problem-solving skills with the ability to prioritize tasks and respond effectively in a dynamic school to establish positive respectful relationships with students while maintaining appropriate professional to fostering an inclusive safe and supportive learning environment where all students can to remain calm exercise sound judgment and respond appropriately in challenging or unexpected to learn new instructional strategies technologies and evidence-based practices to support student growth and to ongoing professional learning and continuous improvement as a member of the educational RequirementsAbility to perform the physical demands of the position including standing walking bending kneeling reaching and lifting or assisting with up to 2550 pounds as required by student needs and job to safely assist students with mobility transfers positioning and activities of daily living including personal care in accordance with district policies training and established safety to actively supervise and engage with students in a variety of settings including classrooms playgrounds cafeterias hallways community-based learning environments and during arrival dismissal and field to respond promptly and appropriately in emergency situations including assisting with student evacuations or implementing safety procedures as to work effectively in both indoor and outdoor environments and in varying weather conditions when supervising or supporting to perform repetitive tasks and maintain the stamina necessary to meet the physical demands of supporting students throughout the school EnvironmentWork is performed in classrooms school buildings playgrounds cafeterias and other school settings. The position may involve exposure to noise frequent interaction with students and occasional behavioral may be modified by the school district based on operational needs under the Director of Student job description in no manner states or implies that these are the only duties and responsibilities to be performed. A paraprofessional will be required to follow the instructions and perform the duties required by the Principal appointing authority or designee.
