Job Overview:

Formulation and packaging are a significant and strategic part of FMCs operations globally. The NA Packaging Improvement Engineer is responsible for the development of packaging line layouts optimization of packaging equipment design and specifications supporting new product launches (packaging) packaging compatibility testing and improvement initiatives in the packaging space for FMC. Working with various levels of facility-based and corporate leadership technology maintenance operations R&D quality supply chain and engineering teams the NA Packaging Improvement Engineer will lead strategically proactively and purposefully to implement solutions which continually improve our safe sustainable and reliable packaging offerings. This role will be based at the FMC Philadelphia Headquarters and reports to the NA Formulations and Packaging Technical Center Manager.

Key Job Responsibilities:

Safety Quality and Sustainability

  • Review equipment changes to assess proposed packaging equipment and revisions to existing
  • Ensure packaging and packaging equipment abides by Regulatory and FMC Safety Standards
  • Support Packaging Responsible Care and Sustainability initiatives
  • Support to reduce waste and drive process operations standardization and environmental goals
  • Support Investigation of customer complaints related to packaging materials and resolve future complaints

Regulatory Compliance

  • Ensure packaging meets design specifications and performance requirements of hazardous US and International materials regulations as well as FMCs product safety standards
  • Coordinate laboratory testing of packages and packaging materials for chemical and physical compatibility Manage development of test methods data analysis and technical report generation for packaging components
  • FMC Representative in external organizations supporting regulatory compliance i.e. Ag Container Recycling Counsil

Manufacturing Support

  • Drive packing improvements equipment technology design and capacities
  • Drive trials of new packages and/or equipment. Adapting current lines/equipment for new packaging configurations i.e. bottles cartoons pallets stacking
  • Design evaluate and recommend packaging materials and packaging systems for formulated products
  • Document packing equipment technologies packaging line equipment capacities and layout
  • Initiate publish maintain and revise packaging materials specifications
  • Work with other departments (R&D Applications Technology Marketing Manufacturing Material Handling Engineering) and outside customers and suppliers in support of packaging projects.
  • Evaluate and recommend alternative packaging materials and systems to reduce costs; improve package performance; and satisfy customer requirements

Required Education:

  • BS in Chemical Engineering Mechanical Engineering Industrial Engineering Manufacturing Engineering or related field required.
  • Minimum 2-5 years of experience in packaging in chemical related field operation
  • 5-7 years of experience in a chemical operations environment preferred

Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of packaging materials packaging systems and hazardous materials regulations. Strong ability to facilitate projects and programs virtually. Ability to negotiate with organizations internal and external for packaging related services
  • Maintain 49 CFR IMDG and IATA certifications required within 90 days
  • The ability to establish and maintain a positive and professional working relationship with individuals
  • Experience making data-based decisions with a result driven action orientated leadership approach
  • Communication skills across interdisciplinary teams to foster open dialogue strong sense of team inspires and motivates others to achieve project goals
  • Knowledge of quality assurance programs or statistical quality control a plus
