MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Applicants must either be or become a Tier 1 officer by attending the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy.

PURPOSE: Our purpose is to serve and protect the students faculty and property of the District.

POSITION SUMMARY: The School Resource Police Officer is assigned to a specific school to oversee a safe arrival and dismissal take necessary enforcement action work with school principals and staff and protect students faculty and property.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES KNOWLEDGE SKILLS & RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Enforces Indiana Criminal and Traffic Code violations.
  2. Reports to and monitors areas as assigned by the Chief of Police or his or her designee.
  3. Completes Indiana Law Enforcement Tier 1 Academymandated in-service training and

NASRO SRO (40 hours) training.

  1. Administers first aid to injured persons and requests EMS to respond.
  2. Controls traffic during arrival and dismissal at assigned schools. Closes and opens all gates

at designated times.

  1. Checks for vehicles parked in handicapped loading areas to ensure proper parking.

Checks for vehicles in unauthorized parking areas and loading zones. Coordinates

removal of unauthorized or suspicious vehicles from school property.

  1. Investigates any disturbances and fights. Investigates suspicious vehiclespersons custody

disputes and quells disturbances.

  1. Mentors students and serves as a role model. Supports students and school personnel

daily to solve problems.

  1. Communicates with school administration about daily schedules.
  2. Supports the principal or their designee when requested with routine problems or

concerns.

  1. Reports all incidents on school grounds to appropriate personnel.
  2. Serves as a liaison to cooperate and coordinate with surrounding agencies and

organizations.

  1. Performs such other tasks and assumes such other responsibilities as the

Superintendent or his or her designee may assign.
