Job Summary:

The Brain Imaging Center in the Department of Psychiatry is seeking an advanced MRI technologist to support research studies conducted on two research-dedicated 3T MRI systems including Siemens and GE platforms. This onsite position combines expert participant care with research protocol implementation advanced image-quality assessment scanner and peripheral troubleshooting quality control investigator collaboration and secure data handling.

The successful candidate will work independently with investigators research personnel and participants across the lifespan and from varied clinical populations. The role offers the opportunity to contribute to functional MRI diffusion imaging MR spectroscopy and other advanced research methods while helping maintain a safe organized and technically rigorous research imaging environment.

The positions primary responsibilities include:

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform advanced research MRI examinations using study-specific protocols on Siemens and GE 3T systems.

  • Screen prepare position educate and monitor research participants while maintaining MRI safety and comfort.

  • Evaluate image quality and independently troubleshoot acquisition equipment peripheral and task-related issues.

  • Perform and document scanner quality control equipment checks and corrective follow-up.

  • Collaborate with investigators on protocol implementation testing parameter selection and documentation.

  • Process transfer verify store and back up imaging and raw data using approved workflows.

  • Train research personnel and maintain study safety scanner and regulatory documentation.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Associates degree from an accredited institution in radiologic technology or field of study related to the work assignment.

  • Two (2) years of MRI experience with human populations and brain-specific imaging.

  • Current registration in magnetic resonance imaging through the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (R.T.(MR)(ARRT))

  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification

Substitution: Additional appropriate experience will substitute for the degree requirement on a year-for-year basis

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience performing and documenting MRI quality control procedures

  • MRI-relevant computer proficiency including the ability to navigate multiple screens systems and data-transfer workflows quickly and accurately

  • Three or more years of MRI experience in an advanced or lead technologist role

  • Experience operating and troubleshooting both Siemens and GE MRI platforms

  • Research MRI experience including functional MRI MR spectroscopy diffusion imaging or other advanced neuroimaging methods

  • Experience implementing optimizing testing and documenting research MRI protocols

  • Experience with E-Prime Presentation or comparable stimulus-presentation and response-recording software

  • Experience with cardiac body or multinuclear MRI and MR spectroscopy

  • Experience working with research participants across the lifespan and with varied neurological psychiatric developmental or body-habitus considerations

Knowledge Skills and Abilities:

To be successful in this position candidates will need the following:

  • Advanced knowledge of MR physics image quality research MRI methods and relevant anatomy and physiology

  • Ability to understand implement and appropriately adjust human MRI acquisition parameters based on study requirements and desired outcomes

  • Ability to independently identify and troubleshoot technical image-quality hardware software and quality-control problems

  • Ability to assess and document MRI safety recognize contraindications and emergencies and initiate appropriate emergency procedures

  • Strong organizational and time-management skills required to manage multiple study protocols scanning sessions and documentation requirements

  • Strong interpersonal instructional and written and verbal communication skills when working with participants investigators and research personnel

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while demonstrating sound judgment attention to detail ethical research conduct and regulatory compliance

  • Strong interpersonal communication organizational and time-management skills including the ability to move rapidly and accurately among multiple study protocols

  • Familiarity with research regulatory and compliance procedures including IRB requirements and protocol-deviation documentation
