MMJ Weekend Weather

KLAS-TV 8 News Now Las Vegas is seeking a multimedia and multiplatform journalist to report during the week and anchor weather during the weekend. A successful applicant will have a proven ability to enterprise stories that connect with audiences across all devices and platforms. The candidate also needs to excel in ad-libbing storytelling and be digitally savvy. Thisposition requires the multimedia journalist to shoot writeand editlocal stories. A typical day could involve general assignment reporting with live shots or returning to station to weather anchor or host/produce or participate in live streaming programs.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Accurate and balanced reporting of news stories following company standards for journalistic integrity and quality
• Shoot write and edit stories ensuring accuracy clarity and strong storytelling
• Contributes to our digital platforms by writing web articles or producing/hosting programs for our CTV streaming app or producing reels for our social accounts
• Creatively present stories in ways that engage todays audiences tailoring content for different devices and platforms
• Must be able to ad-lib breaking news fluently with a strong ability to interact with anchors
• Collaborate with photographer producer assignment desk on live shots as needed
• Attend editorial meetings and regularly pitches original story ideas
• Develop community contacts and a network of news sources
• Produce and anchor weather traffic segments for weekend newscasts and fill-in during the week as needed
• Attend station partnerships in the community
• Perform other duties as assigned

REQUIREMENTS & SKILLS:

• Must interact positively and productively with other employees and in the field
• Exceptionalwritinggrammarandspelling technical formatting
• Excellent communication skillswith ability to ad-libwhenrequired
• Strong on-air presentation must becrediblepersonableandengaging
• Excellent time management skills maintaining strong attention to detail
• Excellent editing skills withAdobe Premiere and videocamera/newsphotographyskills
• Ability to carry 25-30 pounds of equipment
• Flexible with schedule and willing toworkadditionalhoursor days or different shifts and holidays as required by news content
• Knowledge of IBM/WSI or similar weather forecasting system
• Must be able to accept constructive direction and feedback

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

• B.A. or B.S. Degree preferably injournalismcommunicationorequivalent relatedexperience
• Prefer 3-5 years TV news reporting and weather anchor experience
• News videography editing and livestreaming experience preferred

PHYSICAL DEMANDS & ENVIRONMENT

The MMJ must be able to sit conduct telephone conversations use electronic mail write letters and memos conduct face-to-face discussions with individuals or groups make decisions without supervision and work indoors in environmentally controlled addition the MMJ must be able to handle control or feel objects tools or controls. Repetitive movements are required. Work may be conducted in extremely bright or inadequate lighting conditions.
