Job Summary

PGS Worldwide is seeking a Milling Machine Machinist 3 in Palmdale CA for a one year contract-to-hire role supporting a leading aerospace & defense company. This position will support the Tooling department and perform milling machine setup and machining operations to exacting tolerances. The role is onsite in Palmdale and requires U.S. citizenship.

Required Skills

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Blueprint reading
  • 3- 4- and 5-axis milling experience
  • MCAM programming
  • Measurement and inspection experience
  • Ability to set up and operate plain universal horizontal or vertical milling machines
  • Ability to perform own machine setups and determine sequence of operations
  • Ability to interpret blueprints sketches and engineering specifications
  • Experience using machinist hand tools and precision measuring instruments
  • Ability to make standard shop computations and lay out stock for machining
  • Completion of a formal apprenticeship or equivalent training and experience

Preferred Skills

  • 10 years of experience operating CNC mills including 5-axis machines and lathes with live tooling
  • Experience interpreting drawings models and material requirements to develop CNC programs
  • Ability to independently set up machines and complete machining operations with minimal supervision
  • Experience performing in-process and pre-inspection quality checks prior to CMM inspection
  • Experience with true 5-axis gantry machines including SNK
  • Wire EDM operations experience

What Youll Do

  • Set up and operate milling machines to perform machining operations including compound angles and contours boring compound angular holes helical and spiral milling serrating and gear spline and keyway cutting
  • Select mount and align specialized machine attachments and standard or improvised tooling
  • Plan the sequence of operations number of cuts and setup methods
  • Determine set and adjust speeds feeds and depth of cut
  • Interpret blueprints sketches and engineering specifications
  • Use precision measuring instruments and machinist hand tools
  • Measure mark and scribe dimensions and reference points for machining
  • Monitor and verify quality in accordance with applicable control procedures

Work Schedule / Shift

  • 4x10 schedule Monday through Thursday
  • 1-month rotations through 4/10 1st and 2nd shifts Monday through Thursday
  • 3/10 1st shift only Friday through Sunday
