The Middle School Track Coach is responsible for providing leadership instruction and supervision for the districts middle school track and field program. Under the direction of the Athletic Director and Building Principal the coach will create a positive safe and developmentally appropriate athletic environment that promotes skill development sportsmanship teamwork personal responsibility and academic success. Instruct student-athletes in the fundamentals of track and field events while fostering confidence discipline perseverance and a commitment to excellence. The coach is responsible for planning and conducting practices supervising competitions promoting good sportsmanship and ensuring the safety and well-being of all participants.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Plan organize and supervise all aspects of the middle school track and field program.
Develop and implement practice plans that emphasize skill development physical conditioning event fundamentals teamwork and sportsmanship.
Teach proper techniques and safety procedures for all track and field events appropriate to the middle school level.
Supervise student-athletes during practices competitions team travel and other team-related activities to ensure their safety and well-being.
Foster a positive inclusive and respectful team culture that promotes personal growth leadership responsibility and good citizenship.
Encourage student-athletes to maintain academic eligibility regular attendance and positive behavior in accordance with district expectations.
Promote and model ethical conduct integrity and good sportsmanship at all times.
Maintain effective communication with student-athletes parents/guardians school staff officials and the Athletic Director regarding schedules expectations and program activities.
QUALIFICATIONS
Previous successful coaching experience preferably at the varsity or high school level.
Demonstrated knowledge of football fundamentals strategy player development and program management.
Strong leadership organizational communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to establish positive relationships with students parents staff and community members.
Current CPR First Aid and AED Certification (or ability to obtain before the season begins).
Completion of all MHSAA-required coaches education and certifications.
Successful completion of a criminal background check and all district employment requirements.
Must meet all Michigan Department of Education and district coaching requirements.
Physical Demands
Ability to stand walk run bend and demonstrate athletic techniques for extended periods.
Ability to lift and carry equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
Ability to work outdoors in varied weather conditions.
Ability to supervise practices contests and team travel.
