Woodstock Union High School & Middle School is seeking an energetic collaborative and student-centered leader to serve as our Athletic Director. This is an exciting opportunity to lead a respected middle and high school athletic program that plays an important role in the educational experience of our students.

The successful candidate will be committed to developing student-athletes mentoring coaches promoting sportsmanship and inclusion and strengthening partnerships among the school families and the community. We are looking for an individual who believes athletics are an extension of the classroom and who will foster a culture of excellence integrity and belonging.

Position Summary

The Athletic Director serves as the leader of Woodstock Union High School & Middle Schools interscholastic athletic program. As a member of the school leadership team the Athletic Director provides vision leadership and oversight for all middle and high school athletic programs ensuring that athletics advance the schools mission by promoting student achievement leadership sportsmanship well-being and school pride while maintaining compliance with district policies Vermont Principals Association (VPA) regulations and applicable state and federal laws.

Essential Responsibilities
  • Provide leadership and oversight for all middle and high school athletic programs.

  • Recruit hire supervise mentor support and evaluate coaches.

  • Foster a positive culture of sportsmanship integrity teamwork leadership and inclusion throughout the athletic program.

  • Coordinate athletic schedules facilities transportation officials and home and away contests.

  • Supervise home athletic events and ensure safe well-managed athletic facilities and events.

  • Develop and administer the athletic budget including equipment uniforms and other program resources.

  • Coordinate student-athlete registration eligibility required documentation and compliance with VPA regulations district policies and applicable laws.

  • Promote academic achievement and monitor student eligibility in collaboration with school staff.

  • Provide leadership and professional development opportunities for coaches to promote continuous improvement and positive student experiences.

  • Build and maintain positive relationships with students families staff booster organizations youth athletic programs officials and community partners.

  • Collaborate with the principal and school leadership team to strengthen school culture and support student success.

  • Communicate effectively regarding athletic schedules programs expectations achievements and important information.

  • Maintain accurate athletic records inventories and program documentation.

  • Utilize technology to support scheduling communication budgeting and overall athletic program management.

  • Assist in promoting student-athlete recognition and celebrating team and individual accomplishments.

  • Support equitable opportunities for all students to participate and succeed in athletics.

Qualifications
  • Bachelors degree required; Masters degree preferred.

  • Experience in coaching athletic administration educational leadership or a closely related field.

  • Demonstrated leadership and supervisory experience preferred.

  • Strong organizational interpersonal communication and problem-solving skills.

  • Knowledge of Vermont Principals Association (VPA) regulations and interscholastic athletics preferred.

  • Demonstrated ability to build positive relationships with students families staff officials and community partners.

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment.

  • Ability to work evenings weekends and occasional school vacation periods as required by the athletic calendar.

  • Ability to travel between athletic facilities and supervise indoor and outdoor events in varying weather conditions.

Conditions

  • This position is designated as a 1.0 Full-Time Equivalent (FTE); the service period includes 225 workdays at 8 hours per day following the school calendar.
  • Salary is commensurate with experience and qualifications.
