JOB SUMMARY:

The Micro Soldering Technician performs precision hand-soldering and microscopic reworks on surface-mount technology (SMT) and through-hole components. Working primarily under high-magnification stereomicroscopes the technician fixes broken traces swaps complex microchips and rectifies manufacturing defects on delicate circuitry.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Precision Soldering: Perform intricate hand-soldering of microscopic components

PCB Rework & Repair: Diagnose desolder and replace damaged or defective parts without damaging surrounding traces.

Microscopic Inspection: Utilize high-powered digital and stereomicroscopes to inspect solder joints for quality and compliance.

Component Testing: Use multimeters oscilloscopes and automated test equipment to troubleshoot inoperative assemblies.

Quality Standard Adherence: Review work against strict industry quality guidelines most notably IPC-A-610 or J-STD-001 certification standards.

Documentation: Maintain detailed logs of components repaired materials used and testing outcomes.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND TOOLS:

• Manual Dexterity: Exceptional hand-eye coordination and a steady hand are essential for manipulating microscopic parts.
• Equipment Proficiency: Mastery of fine-tipped micro-soldering irons hot air rework stations preheaters & ultrasonic cleaners.
• Chemical Knowledge: Correct utilization of specialized materials like liquid/gel flux low-melt solder solder wicks & isopropyl alcohol.
• ESD Safety: Strict adherence to Electrostatic Discharge (ESD) protocols to avoid destroying sensitive microelectronics.

QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS:

• Education: High school diploma or equivalent; technical degree or vocational certification in electronics is preferred.
• Experience: Generally requires 1 to 4 years of hands-on experience in fine-pitch electronic assembly or hardware repair.
• Certifications: Industry-standard certifications such as IPC-A-610 IPC-7711/7721 or J-STD-001 are heavily preferred by employers.
