Job Summary
We are seeking a detail-oriented Metallurgical Lab Technician to support our aerospace manufacturing and quality this role you will prepare and evaluate metallographic samples perform process audits maintain critical traceability records and ensure compliance with customer industry and internal quality standards.
This position is ideal for candidates with a strong technical aptitude excellent organizational skills and an interest in metallurgy materials testing and quality assurance.
- Prepare evaluate and interpret metallographic samples in accordance with customer specifications for heat treatment validation audits special projects and customer approval packages.
- Maintain accurate traceability records for all incoming metallographic samples and related documentation.
- Ensure proper segregation and disposal of scrap samples and alloy materials according to alloy classification requirements.
- Organize and archive microstructures (micros) by maintaining clearly labeled storage boxes with appropriate date ranges and identification information.
- File store and maintain laboratory records and samples in an orderly and accessible manner.
- Perform 100% audits of daily Heat Treat and HIP (Hot Isostatic Pressing) charts to verify compliance with customer specifications and quality requirements.
- Analyze metallographic features specifications and cut-up diagrams to support inspection and reporting activities.
- Prepare technical reports and maintain accurate laboratory documentation.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives and maintain compliance with quality management systems and industry standards.
- Demonstrate a commitment to professional development by progressing through Level I II and III certification programs.
- Follow all departmental safety policies procedures and regulations.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent organizational and time-management abilities.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications including Word Excel and PowerPoint.
- Ability to lift up to 35 pounds and perform seated laboratory work for extended periods as required.
- Commitment to workplace safety and quality standards.
- Associate degree in Materials Science Metallurgy Engineering Technology or a related technical field.
- Two or more years of college coursework in a technical discipline.
- ASTM training or certification in metallography materials testing or heat treatment processes.
- Experience with metallographic sample preparation microscopy laboratory testing or quality inspection.
- Aerospace manufacturing heat treat HIP or NADCAP experience.
- Technical report writing and data analysis experience.
- Strong attention to detail and record accuracy.
- Ability to interpret engineering specifications and metallurgical requirements.
- Analytical problem-solving skills.
- Commitment to quality compliance and continuous improvement.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with operations engineering and quality teams.
