The Medical Director (MD) serves as the clinical leader and medical voice of All Creatures Pet Hospital setting the standard for excellence in medical quality exceptional patient care positive client experiences and a collaborative high-performing team culture. As a trusted veterinarian within the community the MD leads by exampledelivering high-quality medicine mentoring and developing associate doctors and fostering an environment where quality compassion and teamwork thrive.
At All Creatures Pet Hospital we are a thriving practice with a strong focus on both small animal and exotic medicine. Our team sees a wide variety of cases including reptiles pocket pets birds and occasional wildlife cases while maintaining a robust small animal client base. This role offers the opportunity to lead a supportive and collaborative team while continuing to grow professionally in a diverse clinical environment.
In alignment with AmeriVets vision for veterinary excellence the Medical Director balances hands-on clinical practice with leadership responsibilities spending the majority of their time providing direct patient care while guiding medical quality mentorship and professional development across the close partnership with the Practice Manager the MD provides medical oversight of hospital operations and care delivery to ensure consistently exceptional outcomes for patients clients and team members while supporting achievement of hospital performance goals.

The Medical Director supervises Associate Veterinarians and Partner Doctors within the practice.
Set model and uphold medical quality standards for the practice exemplifying excellence and delivering high-quality care in accordance with industry standards AmeriVet guidelines and state practice acts.

Coach mentor and manage veterinarians ensuring they:
Maintain clinical proficiency in medical and surgical care.
Demonstrate excellent client communication and education.
Complete thorough timely and accurate medical records.
Ensure appropriate and compliant charging for services and products.
Lead by example in supporting a positive hospital culture.
Receive regular coaching feedback performance reviews and accountability.
Continuously improve medical quality patient outcomes and client trust through case review and clinical collaboration.
Evaluate develop and continuously improve clinical competency across the veterinary team including doctors relief veterinarians technicians and assistants through direct observation coaching case discussions and medical record reviews.
Organize and lead regular doctor meetings focused on medical standards protocols case reviews and hospital priorities.
Partner closely with the Practice Manager to:
Align on hospital initiatives culture people development and operational priorities.
Optimize scheduling and clinical workflows.
Ensure team members work at the top of their training and licensure.
Manage inventory and product utilization.
Support coaching and development of hospital team members.
Participate in hospital-wide meetings and strategic initiatives.
Oversee the maintenance and proper utilization of hospital equipment.
Actively engage with the local community to strengthen the hospitals presence and impact through outreach client education partnerships and initiatives that improve access to veterinary care.
Collaborate with the Talent Acquisition team to recruit interview and onboard high-quality veterinary talent.
Serve as the Responsible Veterinarian including oversight of:
Federal state and local registrations and permits.
Controlled substance inventory and compliance.
Radiation safety programs and compliance requirements.
Maintain an active clinical caseload serving as a hands-on veterinarian for the majority of the workweek.
Serve as an AmeriVet Ambassador by participating in leadership initiatives meetings and events that support organizational goals and values.
Perform other duties as assigned in support of hospital and organizational success.

Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM/VMD) or equivalent degree from an accredited university required.
Active veterinary license in Alabama or the ability to obtain licensure.
Active DEA registration for responsible practice location(s).
Any required state-controlled substance pharmacy or related registrations as required.
Minimum of 35 years of experience as a practicing veterinarian preferred.
Previous leadership mentorship or team development experience preferred.
Compassionate client-centered approach to medicine.
Strong communication and client education skills.
Commitment to a minimum of 35 hours per week.
Experience with exotic species is welcomed but not required.
