Job Summary
The Medical Assistant is an integral member of the healthcare team and is accountable for the clinical and administrative care of patients as assigned by a licensed independent provider and/or Manager. The MA position offers exposure to the clinical operative academic and administrative aspects of Orthopedic Surgery. The MA participates in the direct and indirect care of patients health maintenance patient instruction collaborative planning and rehabilitation as within scope of practice and consistent with their education and addition the MA will provide administrative support to health care providers within an ambulatory setting. Developing relationships with patients families and colleagues the MA functions as an interdisciplinary team member who provides quality patient care and contributes toward the attainment of important goals for the patient the practice and the organization. Clinical Duties and Responsibilities:

Utilize two appropriate patient identification methods for each patient in compliance with regulations.
Review the daily schedule of patients and facilitate efficient patient flowincluding x-ray order entry cast/bracing requisitions etc.
Accurately obtains vital signsincluding BP height weighttemperature etc.elicits information about the patients basic health status/medications and administers relevant care within scope of practice.
Performs routine procedures that may include suture/stapleremovalbasic wound care issue and fit durable medical equipment if appropriate within clinic setting.
Obtain MRSA/MSSA swabs from identified pre-operative patients.
Participates in team-based care and patient education initiatives to support the health and wellness of patients. Reinforces patient instruction as directed byproviders
Participatesin organizational and unit-based quality improvement initiatives and compliance readiness.
Following approved clinical practice guidelines and workflowsentersappropriate orders for radiology laboratory testing and other care needs.
Performs a variety of tasks including those that may be facilitated by administrative staff whichinfluencethe overalloperationsof the unit. These includepatientflow stocking of rooms scheduling tasks and all other duties as assigned.
Indirect Patient Care:Patient Service Coordinator Specifics
Administrative Duties and Responsibilities:
Answer and transfer telephone calls.
Schedule and register patients for appointments/procedures confirm appointments/procedures prepare for patient visit by providing patient with all necessary information and completing all necessary tasks.
Perform full front desk job responsibilities including patient check-in/out.
Ensure all billing/fiscal information is completed and submitted after visit including collection and daily reconciliation of any co-payments.
Assist with special projects as directed.
Assist with training and orienting staff as needed.
Follow HIPAA guidelines for the management of patient privacy and confidentiality.
Appropriately utilizes organizational resources including management of time suppliesequipmentand other assets.
Education
High School Diploma or Equivalent required

Experience
