Job Summary
- Perform direct clinical care under the supervision of licenses nurses Advance Practice Registered Nurses (APRNs) and/or Physicians (MDs) utilizing current laboratory policies and procedures and nursing guidelines.
- Explain and perform laboratory procedures such as venipunctures and capillary sticks.
- Perform point of care laboratory tests administer medications/vaccines (oral sub-lingual topical inhalation treatments ear and intranasal) to eyes and ears and by injection; perform vital signs growth measures and vision and hearing examinations.
- Perform simple wound care irrigation and simple dressing changes; perform electrocardiograms (EKGs) and spirometry.
- Assist higher level provider during patient exams and procedures.
- Perform quality control measures and maintain records as required; perform quality controls on all point of care laboratory tests monitor temperature and humidity of medication room monitor temperature of vaccine refrigerator and freezer and collect code handle and ship specimens.
- Participate as a contributing member of the clinical care team and county health department to accomplish operational goals of the strategic plan; provide excellent patient care and promote primary prevention.
- Contribute to a culture of safety by following the guidelines of the electronic health record bloodborne pathogen standards infection control and laboratory guidelines.
- Maintain clean organize and rotate stock in clinic area and report errors.
- Graduation from a medical assistant program and successful completion of Certified Medical Assistant Exam or Registered Medical Assistant Exam.
- Qualifying experience in assisting individuals with their personal habilitative rehabilitative or medical needs; medical records keeping; medical laboratory work; and/or office clerical work may substitute for the required education AND successful completion of Certified Medical Assistant Exam or Registered Medical Assistant Exam.
- Currently registered as a medical assistant or currently certified as a medical assistant.
