Mercy is seeking a compassionate and detail-oriented Medical Assistant to support our Co-Worker Health team in St. this role you will work alongside providers and clinical staff to deliver exceptional care and service to Mercy co-workers. • Welcome patients and prepare them for appointments by obtaining vital signs and updating medical histories including medications.
• Prepare patients for examinations and assist providers during exams and procedures.
• Perform basic diagnostic testing including urine dipsticks glucose testing EKGs and other approved procedures based on competency.
• Accurately and promptly document patient care within the electronic health record (EHR).
• Reinforce patient education provided by physicians or nursing staff.
• Maintain clean organized exam rooms and ensure adequate clinical supplies are available.
• Coordinate scheduling of diagnostic testing specialty referrals and follow-up appointments.
• Assist with insurance precertification and prior authorization processes.
• Support referral management and coordination of care.
• Perform front-office responsibilities including answering phones patient registration check-in/check-out document management and fax processing.
• Participate in quality improvement initiatives team meetings and ongoing professional development.
• Follow all infection prevention patient safety regulatory and organizational policies and procedures.
• Conduct competency reviews for other Medical Assistants when needed and appropriate.
• Perform additional duties within the Medical Assistant scope of practice as assigned.

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• New hires must successfully complete Mercys MA Clinic Academy training program.
• Medical Assistants progressing to the Certified Advanced Medical Assistant career ladder title must complete all required MA competencies.

• Current Medical Assistant certification required and must be actively maintained.

• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.

• One year of patient care experience in an outpatient ambulatory or clinic setting.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification for non-HOD clinic settings.
• Experience working with electronic health records and clinical documentation systems.

• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to build positive relationships with patients providers and team members.
• Proficiency with EHR systems and clinical documentation.
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
• Knowledge of common outpatient procedures equipment and patient care practices.
• Commitment to patient-centered care quality outcomes and continued professional development.
• Ability to effectively work with diverse patient populations and varying healthcare needs.

• Outpatient clinical setting with frequent patient interaction.
• Regular use of clinical equipment and technology.
• Exposure to infectious materials and bodily fluids; appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) is provided.

• Ability to stand and walk for extended periods throughout the workday.
• Ability to lift push pull and move up to 50 pounds on a regular basis.
• Ability to bend kneel squat twist reach and perform other physical activities required to support patient care.
