Job Summary:

The Media Services Technicians provides event classroom and audiovisual technology support to the PLNU community. This position assists in the setup operation maintenance and troubleshooting of audio video lighting and classroom technologies used throughout the University. Working alongside experienced Media Services staff this role provides technical support for campus events while developing knowledge of professional audiovisual systems live event production classroom technology and multimedia systems.

The ideal candidate is dependable customer-service focused eager to learn new technologies organized adaptable and able to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.

Media Services Technician Level 2 $30.37 - $33.39
Actual salary offered is determined by the candidates experience education skills and other factors including internal equity and university funding resources.

Job Description:

Essential Responsibilities

Event Support

  • Setup operate and tear down portable and installed audio video lighting and presentation equipment for campus events meetings classes and special programs.

  • Assist with live sound reinforcement using analog and digital audio consoles.

  • Assist with live video production streaming and recording of University events.

  • Operate presentation systems including microphones projectors displays confidence monitors and video conferencing equipment.

  • Provide technical support during events and respond quickly to operational issues.

  • Assist with Media Services or Telecom infrastructure cabling installations or repairs

Classroom & Technology Support

  • Assist with deployment maintenance troubleshooting and repair of classroom audio/visual equipment.

  • Diagnose and resolve basic hardware and software issues related to classroom technology.

  • Perform preventative maintenance and routine inspections of classroom technology.

  • Maintain accurate equipment inventories and storage areas.

Customer Service

  • Provide professional and courteous support to faculty staff students and guests.

  • Instruct faculty and staff on proper operation of classroom and event technology.

  • Communicate effectively in person over the phone and through email.

Team Collaboration

  • Work closely with Media Services Engineers and senior technicians during event support and technology deployments.

  • Cross-train with other ITS staff to develop proficiency across supported technologies.

  • Train and mentor student workers in proper equipment operation event procedures and safety practices.

  • Follow University ITS and Event Services policies and procedures.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Professional Development

  • Learn emerging audiovisual technologies through training and hands-on experience.

  • Follow manufacturer best practices and established installation standards.

  • Participate in departmental training and continuous improvement initiatives.

Desired Qualifications
  • Associate degree in Audio Production Media Technology Information Technology Communications or related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Two years of experience supporting audiovisual equipment live events or classroom technology.

  • Basic knowledge of:

    • Audio systems

    • Video systems

    • Presentation technologies

    • Live sound reinforcement

    • Digital and analog signal flow

    • Video conferencing technologies

  • Experience operating digital audio mixers preferred.

  • Basic computer troubleshooting skills.

  • Experience using Microsoft Office and productivity software.

  • Strong customer service and communication skills.

  • Ability to prioritize multiple assignments and adapt to changing schedules.

  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

  • Demonstrated commitment to learning new technologies.

  • Strong work ethic

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift transport and install audiovisual equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.

  • Ability to climb ladders and work safely from elevated positions when needed.

  • Ability to sit stand bend kneel and walk for extended periods.

  • Manual dexterity sufficient to install and operate audiovisual equipment.

  • Visual and hearing ability sufficient to diagnose equipment issues and support live events.

Special Conditions

  • Must successfully complete a background check.

  • May need to work on occasion evening or weekend to support special University events.

  • Occasional travel between PLNU campuses may be required.
