Mechatronics Engineer
Job Summary
is currently seeking a direct hire Mechatronics Engineer for one of our partners an OEM that builds heavy industrial vehicles across diesel gas and battery electric this position you will develop and validate the control systems that make all three powertrains work from the Simulink model to the flashed ECU to a vehicle running in the field. Small engineering team on-site in Savannah GA and the kind of seat where one engineer touches a whole vehicle instead of one subsystem.
- Develop new and improved controls and mechatronic systems across three powertrains on one product family: diesel gas and battery electric
- Build control models and run the simulations that prove them out: software-in-the-loop hardware-in-the-loop rapid prototyping and desktop
- Design and calibrate closed-loop control systems then validate them on the bench and in the vehicle
- Own the loop from code change to flashed ECU including building experimental flash files
- Develop functional diagrams that support controls development and field troubleshooting
- Work with engine system integration and engine development teams to validate control strategies for vehicle integration
- Review and approve component sub-assembly and purchase drawings and help select design solutions materials and components
- Work directly with suppliers and other departments to build and procure components for prototype and production builds
- Verify that controls and mechatronic systems meet customer product safety and legislation requirements
- Step in when a controls issue surfaces on the production floor
- Get out to the machines and test systems yourself. This is not a desk-only seat.
- Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering
- Minimum 3 years of work-related experience
- Vehicle control system development experience
- Experience supporting a manufacturing environment
- MATLAB and Simulink with embedded code exposure
- Hardware-in-the-loop testing
- Design and calibration of closed-loop system controls
- Vector analysis tools such as CANalyzer
- C Python or other programming experience
- Willingness to travel occasionally domestic and the odd international trip
- On-site full-time and happy to get out of the chair: you will be plugging into machines and testing systems yourself
- Masters degree in any engineering discipline
- Construction agricultural material handling or other mobile equipment background. This is the experience our client values most
- Experience with J1939 communications. Not required and very much a differentiator
- Battery electric or hybrid powertrain experience
- Embedded HMI or instrument cluster development
- Experience creating experimental flash files and owning an embedded flash workflow
- PLM experience with Creo Creo Schematic and Windchill
- Experience participating in Lean and continuous improvement work
