The Mechanical Pipe Superintendent is responsible for planning coordinating and executing all underground piping installation activities supporting Quanta Power Solutions combined cycle power generation projects. This role provides field leadership for the installation of buried process piping cooling water systems fire protection piping storm drainage sanitary systems fuel gas and other underground infrastructure. The Superintendent is responsible for ensuring work is performed safely on schedule within budget and in accordance with project specifications quality requirements and customer expectations.
- Lead and oversee all underground pipe installation activities from excavation through final backfill and testing.
- Direct supervision of Union foremen craft labor equipment operators and subcontractors to ensure safe and productive work execution.
- Champion Quanta Power Solutions safety culture by enforcing all safety policies procedures and regulatory requirements.
- Plan and coordinate excavation trenching shoring dewatering pipe installation backfilling compaction and site restoration activities.
- Manage the installation of underground piping systems including cooling water circulating water fire water storm drainage sanitary sewer condensate and other plant utility systems.
- Ensure piping installations meet project drawings specifications quality standards and applicable codes.
- Coordinate with civil mechanical structural and startup teams to support overall project execution.
- Monitor manpower equipment utilization productivity and material deliveries to maintain schedule and budget targets.
- Identify and resolve field conflicts underground interferences and constructability issues.
- Oversee hydrostatic testing leak testing inspections and turnover activities for underground systems.
- Conduct regular safety meetings jobsite inspections and field audits.
- Track project progress and proactively address schedule impacts labor challenges and productivity concerns.
- Maintain accurate reporting on labor production and project milestones.
- Foster a culture of teamwork accountability and operational excellence.
- Minimum 7 years of experience in underground pipe construction heavy industrial construction power generation refinery petrochemical or related industrial projects.
- Proven leadership experience as a Superintendent General Foreman and Foreman overseeing underground piping operations on union projects.
- Strong knowledge of underground piping installation methods excavation practices trench safety and utility coordination.
- Experience installing large-diameter carbon steel Stainless HDPE PVC fiberglass ductile iron or reinforced concrete pipe systems.
- Thorough understanding of buried piping systems associated with power generation facilities.
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings specifications isometrics site layouts and project schedules.
- Competent in cranes and rigging activities.
- Strong understanding of quality control requirements testing procedures and turnover documentation.
- Demonstrated commitment to safety quality and operational excellence.
- Excellent communication leadership planning and problem-solving skills.
- OSHA 30 and Competent Person Excavation/Trenching certification preferred.
