About the role

We are looking for a Mechanical Engineer to support the delivery of businessobjectivesthrough defect elimination root cause analysis project management and technical support for maintenance execution operations and project teams at the Rio Tinto Kennecott Smelter.

This isa great opportunityfor a motivated mechanical engineering professional to make meaningful contributions to the safe and reliable operation of critical assets while supporting production requirements and continuous improvement.

Reporting to the Area Engineering leader and working in a collaborative technical and operational environment at Kennecott you will:

  • Provide engineering and troubleshooting support to maintenance execution and operations teams

  • Identify own and implement initiatives that improve safety asset performance reliability and cost outcomes

  • Support capital project validation and delivery by providing technical input and practical engineering guidance

  • Initiate andfacilitateroot cause analysis to mitigate acute and chronic asset failures

  • Apply defect elimination and failure analysis methods to reduce repeat issues and improve equipment performance

  • Reconcile production loss accounting data and use insights toidentifyimprovement opportunities

  • Collaborate with maintenance operations reliability and project teams to support safe execution and business objectives

About you

  • A commitment to the safety of yourself and your team

  • Bachelors degree in Engineering preferably Mechanical or equivalent relevant experience

  • 2 years of experience in engineering or maintenance roles within an industrial or fixed plant environment

  • Experience delivering continuous improvement initiatives and engineering projects that support asset performance

  • Knowledge of defect elimination root cause analysis and failure analysis methodologies

  • Collaborative working style with the ability to partner effectively across maintenance operations and technical teams

We produce copper precious metals including gold and silver molybdenumtelluriumand sulfuric acid.
