Mechanical Engineer

Ground Weapons System Hardware Environmental Engineering

We are hiring a Mechanical Engineer Ground Weapons System (GWS) Hardware Design to support Missile Defense Agency (MDA) programs focused on ballistic missile defense. This onsite engineering role supports the design evaluation and environmental compliance of Ground Weapons System (GWS) hardware using SolidWorks Creo NX Teamcenter SAP ASME standards MIL-STD requirements and COTS hardware evaluation in a fast-paced defense environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Support the Ground Weapons System (GWS) program as a Hardware Environmental Engineering (HWE) team member responsible for hardware compliance and environmental engineering activities.
  • Evaluate hardware designs to ensure compliance with system and environmental requirements.
  • Develop engineering analyses and technical documentation supporting hardware qualification and design verification.
  • Review equipment designs and provide engineering guidance to ensure compliance with program requirements and applicable military and industry standards.
  • Evaluate commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) and military hardware for design suitability and specification compliance.
  • Review vendor drawings specifications and technical documentation to verify conformance with engineering requirements.
  • Create review and interpret 2D mechanical drawings in accordance with ASME drafting standards.
  • Support product lifecycle management (PLM) activities using Teamcenter and material management processes within SAP.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams supporting the design and development of Missile Defense Agency Ground Weapons System capabilities.
  • Support hardware design activities throughout the engineering lifecycle while ensuring compliance with established technical standards.

Qualifications:

  • U.S. Citizenship is required by Federal Law
  • Active Secret Clearance required
  • Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • One of the following:
    • Bachelors degree with 2 years of related engineering experience;
    • Masters degree in a STEM discipline with 1 year of related experience; or
    • Ph.D. in a STEM discipline.
  • Recent mechanical design experience using 3D CAD software such as SolidWorks Creo or Siemens NX.
  • Experience creating and reviewing 2D mechanical drawings in accordance with ASME Y14 drafting standards.
  • Experience using Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) systems such as Teamcenter and Material Requirements Planning (MRP) systems such as SAP.
  • Experience reviewing vendor documentation engineering specifications and technical data packages.
  • Familiarity with:
    • MIL-STD-810
    • MIL-STD-1366
    • MIL-STD-1472
    • MIL-STD-461
    • MIL-STD-31000
    • ASME Y14.5
    • ASME Y14.100
  • Experience evaluating commercial and military hardware for compliance with engineering requirements.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications including Excel Word Outlook PowerPoint Teams and Access.
  • Ability to travel up to 10%.
  • Ability to work onsite in a full-time non-telework environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience performing structural design analyses and impact assessments.
  • Experience working within Agile or Kanban development environments using Jira.
  • Familiarity with Missile Defense Agency (MDA) engineering processes and standards including:
    • MDA-QS-001-MAP
    • MDA-QS-003-PMAP
    • MDA Instruction 5000.20-INS (ETR Process)
  • Knowledge of the Ground-based Midcourse Defense (GMD) mission area and GMD Launch Support Systems hardware.
  • Experience supporting Missile Defense Agency or other DoD missile defense programs.
