Job Summary
Location: Lake Orion MI
We are seeking experienced Mechanical Engineers to support the design and development of automation equipment and BIW tooling for a major automotive manufacturing program. This role is ideal for engineers with a strong mechanical design background extensive CATIA experience and knowledge of body-in-white (BIW) tooling and automated assembly systems.
This is a hands-on engineering position working closely with cross-functional teams to design validate and support custom automation equipment from concept through installation.
- Design and develop mechanical systems tooling and automation equipment using CATIA.
- Create 3D models detailed manufacturing drawings and engineering documentation.
- Develop innovative design concepts for automated assembly and manufacturing systems.
- Perform engineering calculations tolerance analysis and design validation.
- Support prototype builds testing and equipment validation.
- Collaborate with controls electrical manufacturing and project engineering teams.
- Work with suppliers and vendors to ensure designs are manufacturable and meet project requirements.
- Review drawings BOMs and specifications for accuracy and quality.
- Track engineering changes and maintain project documentation throughout the design lifecycle.
- Support equipment installation launch activities and engineering changes as required.
- Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience.
- Approximately 10 years of mechanical design experience.
- Advanced proficiency with CATIA and 3DEXPERIENCE CATIA.
- Strong experience designing BIW tooling.
- Understanding of GD&T manufacturing processes and machine design.
- Experience designing automation equipment tooling or general assembly systems.
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
- Automotive manufacturing experience.
- Experience supporting Honda or other OEM design standards.
- Knowledge of automated assembly systems and industrial manufacturing.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint.
- Standard schedule of 4045 hours per week.
- Overtime available with workloads reaching 5055 hours per week during installation and launch.
