Job Summary
Position Summary
The Math District Specialist provides leadership in the development implementation and continuous improvement of the districts mathematics program. This role supports high-quality mathematics instruction aligned to the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) and ensures consistent rigorous instructional practices across campuses. The specialist works directly with teachers and administrators to strengthen instructional practice improve student achievement and close learning gaps through data-driven decision-making and job-embedded professional learning.
Primary Responsibilities
Curriculum & Instructional Leadership
-Lead the development alignment and refinement of the district mathematics curriculum based on the TEKS and research-based instructional practices.
- Ensure vertical alignment of mathematics instruction across grade levels and courses.
- Support implementation of high-quality instructional materials and district mathematics frameworks.
- Model effective mathematics instruction that promotes conceptual understanding procedural fluency mathematical reasoning and problem solving.
- Support the implementation of research-based instructional strategies that increase student engagement and achievement.
Coaching & Teacher Support
- Provide instructional coaching to teachers to improve mathematics pedagogy and student outcomes.
- Conduct classroom observations and provide actionable growth-focused feedback.
- Support new and struggling teachers through targeted coaching lesson planning and instructional modeling.
- Facilitate collaborative planning professional learning communities (PLCs) and lesson study.
- Provide instructional coaching to teachers to improve mathematics pedagogy and student outcomes.
- Conduct classroom observations and provide actionable growth-focused feedback.

Data Analysis & Student Achievement
- Lead the disaggregation and analysis of student performance data including STAAR local assessments benchmarks and common formative assessments.
- Identify instructional gaps and recommend targeted intervention and acceleration strategies.
- Support campuses in using data to inform instructional planning intervention and enrichment.
- Monitor progress toward district mathematics goals and campus improvement plans.

CURRICULUM & INSTRUCTION
Professional Learning & Capacity Building
- Design and facilitate high-quality professional learning focused on mathematics instruction effective pedagogy TEKS alignment assessment practices and instructional best practices.
- Build teacher capacity through ongoing coaching collaborative learning opportunities and job-embedded support.
- Support campus administrators in strengthening instructional leadership through walkthrough calibration instructional feedback and mathematics-specific coaching.
- Stay current on state initiatives instructional research and best practices in mathematics education.
Collaboration & Leadership
- Collaborate with campus principals instructional leaders and district administrators to align mathematics initiatives with district goals.
- Serve as the district content expert in mathematics instruction and curriculum.
- Support implementation fidelity of district instructional initiatives and continuous improvement efforts.
- Foster collaborative relationships that promote instructional excellence and student success across the district.
Qualifications
- Bachelors degree required; Masters degree in Education Mathematics Curriculum & Instruction Educational Leadership or a related field preferred.
- Valid Texas teaching certification in Mathematics.
- Minimum of five (5) years of successful classroom teaching experience.
- Demonstrated record of strong student achievement and academic growth.
- Deep knowledge of the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) for mathematics.
- Expertise in curriculum development mathematics pedagogy instructional coaching and assessment practices.
- Experience analyzing student performance data to improve instructional outcomes.
- Ability to design and deliver effective professional learning for teachers and administrators.
- Strong communication collaboration organizational and leadership skills.
