Job Summary

Job Summary:

Under general supervision perform skilled semi-skilled and unskilled maintenance work on buildings athletic fields exerciseequipmentvehiclesand equipment.Serve asteamleader and train others in proper work methods and procedures.

Essential Functions:

  • 30% Perform all essential functions of a Maintenance Repair Worker. Perform installationsrepairsand replacements ofinternal/external campus structures and/or facilities.Inspect installreplaceand repair all types of roofs flooring walls windowsdoors furniture etc.
  • 15%Maintainrepairand replace various plumbing equipment open cloggeddrainsand related equipment.Plan inspect andmaintainrecords of maintenance concerns.Research and order maintenance repair parts and supplies.
  • 15% Repair and install lightingswitchesand outlets.Replace defective breakers and fuses as needed.Perform generalmaintenanceonelectrical systems.
  • 15% Follow a predetermined schedule of preventative maintenance and daily observations of general building systems includingventilation airconditioningand heating equipment.Change filtersbeltsand grease equipment as needed.Troubleshoot and fixequipment as needed.
  • 15% Perform masonry concrete paintingweldingand sheet metal work as needed.
  • 10% Assist in ordering supplies.Monitor buildings for potential problems.Coordinate work with other trades. Complete worktime and material usage reports. Perform otherduties asassigned by Supervisor.

Additional Position Information:

Education:

Requireshighschool diploma or GED.

Licenses/Certifications:

Valid Ohio Drivers License and a Journeymans Certification.

Experience:

Requirescompletion of the 3-year University of Akron or other State Approved Sponsored Apprenticeship Program for Trade or Requires a minimum of 8 years of mechanic trades experience.Ability tooperateand use standard powered and non-powered tools and equipment such as hammers saws screwdrivers drills and crowbars jackhammers core drills circularsawsand hammer drills. Ability to perform mathematics associated with trade applications (fractions ratios percentages). Ability to read write and accurately follow oralwrittenand graphic instructions required.Ability to work alone.Problem solving skills and the ability to use judgment indeterminingthe correct course of action. Prior experience in leading others preferred.

Leadership:

Provide guidance to nonexempt staff including general scheduling assigningtasksandmonitoringthe work of others as assigned

by the Supervisor.

Physical Requirements:

Must be able to lift 80 pounds without assistance and demonstrate bendingcrouchingand lifting.Must be able to climb a ladderscaffolding andworkon rooftops.

Working Conditions:

Routine exposure to heat cold moisture/wetness inclement weathernoise airpollution and heights.May involve exposure tochemical substanceshazardsand moving parts. Work schedule is subject to changein accordance withUniversityneeds and/orthe results of the shift line-up process. Overtime/Call-ins may be mandatory based onUniversityneeds.
