Job Summary

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Installs maintains and repairs university locking systems
  • Completes project requests and estimates project costs for locking systems. Meets with requestors and vendors to research locking systems and develops recommendations for solutions. Completes and/or coordinates installations
  • Meets with stakeholders during building construction to map out the core codes needed for new or renovated buildings
  • Maintains keying records and systems
  • Maintains material/shop inventory including ordering materials using the purchase requisition system
  • Provides immediate on-call response as requested for building related maintenance emergencies
  • Other duties as assigned

Knowledge Skills & Abilities

  • Knowledge of mechanical and electronic locking systems including installation maintenance and repair
  • Knowledge of electronic filing systems
  • Skill in the use of common hand tools
  • Skill in cutting duplicating and rekeying keys to meet security requirements
  • Ability to maintain door hardware equipment and specialty lock shop tools
  • Ability to ensure the confidentiality and integrity of key control and access systems

Minimum Education & Experience

  • High School diploma or GED
  • 5 years of relevant experience
  • Equivalent combination of experience and education may be considered

Job Level Overview

Operations Administrative Service or Technical Support Level 3 - Senior level role with considerable knowledge and skills. Performs complex tasks and project work. Work is typically not routine and requires troubleshooting and analysis. Mentors or guides less experienced staff.

Facilities Management Services (FMS) supports the RIT community by designing constructing operating and maintaining a high-quality cost-effective campus environment. The FMS Maintenance Services team plays a critical role in this mission by providing corrective and preventive maintenance for interior and exterior building systems and components across campus.

As a member of the FMS Maintenance Services team the Master Locksmith is responsible for maintaining the security and functionality of campus locking systems and supporting the Institutes key management program.
