A Day in the Life
In this exciting role as a Manufacturing Engineer II on the Dexter Michigan Manufacturing Engineering team you will be responsible for developing sustaining and improving a variety of production fixtures equipment and manufacturing processes. Projects supported in this role may include capacity expansion end-of-life equipment replacement yield improvement technology implementation quality enhancements and Lean transformation initiatives.This role partners closely with cross-functional teams both inside and outside the plant including Quality Regulatory R&D Operations Manufacturing Technicians and external vendors and consultants to drive continuous improvement and operational excellence. This is an onsite position with minimal travel requirements.
The Dexter facility supports the production of Extracorporeal Life Support (ECLS) products and catheters including the Nautilus VitalFlow Bio-Medicus and Crescent product lines. These products help address the needs of customers and patients around the globe making this an opportunity to contribute to meaningful work that has a direct impact on patient care.

Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned.
- Collaborate with cross-functional team to identify process improvement opportunities.
- Apply appropriate technical skills and tools such as DOE SPC hypothesis testing capability studies Gemba walks and lean manufacturing tools to perform in depth analysis determine root cause and identify corrective actions.
- Identify process improvement opportunities including new fixturing equipment and inspection solutions.
- Develops shop floor work instructions and trains operators on equipment and methods
- Works directly with equipment/machinery suppliers to develop processes specifications capability and suitability for purpose
- Specifies and purchases equipment and machinery.
- Responsible for the installation of equipment
- Create test plans and reports to demonstrate technical rationale for associated decisions.
- Execute validation activities (IQ/OQ/PQ) to implement new fixtures and equipment on existing production lines and to poke and yolk and challenge specifications for existing processes.
- Manage project timelines and scope communicating changes and challenges to key stakeholders.
- Sustain current production through day-to-day support.
- Understand how to flow requirements from a top-level design down to a manufacturing process specification.
Required Knowledge and Experience
- Bachelors degreewith a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience
- OR Masters degree with a minimum of 0 years relevant experience
Nice to Have
- Experience in the medical device industry or other regulated manufacturing environments.
- Experience with Quality System documentation and regulated processes.
- Experience with process and equipment validation (IQ/OQ/PQ).
- Experience with manufacturing automation vision systems or PLC-controlled equipment.
- Experience interpreting technical drawings specifications and engineering documentation.
- Experience leading manufacturing process improvements or cross-functional projects.
- Experience with root cause analysis and corrective action implementation.
For Baccalaureate degrees earned outside of the United States a degree that satisfies the requirements of 8 C.F.R. 214.2(h)(4)(iii)(A) is required.
