Maintenance Working Foreman (Internal Opportunity Only)

General Summary of Position:

This being an internal opportunity only current UML Employees irrespective of Bargaining units are eligible to apply for this position.

Position series oversees and participates in the work of employees engaged in the upkeep maintenance and repair of buildings and related structures and maintain records of work progress materials and equipment used etc.; and perform related work as required.

There are currently 3 potentially open positions on 2 shifts:

Shift: 1st Shift (Sun-Thurs) up to one position

Shift: 1st Shift (Tues-Sat) up to two positions

The basic purpose if this is to oversee and participate in the upkeep maintenance and repair of state buildings and related structures.

Minimum Qualifications (Required):

• Applicants must have at least two years of full-time or equivalent part-time experience in building maintenance repair and/ or construction or in a building construction trade
• Ability to supervise including planning and assigning work according to the nature of the job to be accomplished the capabilities of subordinates and available resources; controlling work through periodic reviews and/or evaluations; determining subordinates training needs and providing or arranging for such training; motivating subordinates to work effectively; determining the need for disciplinary action and either recommending or initiating disciplinary action
• Knowledge of the types and uses of equipment and materials used in building maintenance and repair work
• Knowledge of the safety practices and procedures followed in building maintenance and repair work
• Knowledge of the standard preventive maintenance procedures followed in connection with building structures
• Knowledge of the types and uses of small hand tools such as pliers chisels hammers etc.
• Knowledge of the types and uses of hand- held power tools such as drills
• Ability to establish and maintain harmonious working relationships with others
• Ability to exercise sound judgment
• Ability to maintain accurate records
• Ability to stand for prolonged periods of time
• Ability to lift and carry heavy objects
• Ability to climb ladders and scaffolds
• Physical stamina and endurance
• Mechanical aptitude
• Manual dexterity

This position is in MTU Grade 14. Step 1 $2064.64 bi-weekly with Step 7 $2442.59 bi-weekly and Step 14 $2875.23 bi-weekly.
