Job Summary:

The City of Greeley is seeking a Maintenance Technician or Water Systems Technician IIV to join the Transmission and Distribution Maintenance team within the Water & Sewer Department. Reporting to the Transmission and Distribution Maintenance Crew Supervisor this position performs maintenance inspection repair and installation of the Citys potable water distribution system to ensure reliable delivery of safe drinking water.

Responsibilities include inspecting maintaining and repairing pressure reducing valves (PRVs) air vacuum valves fire hydrants water valves and water mains; performing valve exercising; completing Colorado 811 utility locates; and assisting with emergency repairs and routine maintenance throughout the Citys transmission and distribution system. The position also installs and repairs water infrastructure responds to water main breaks and service interruptions operates a variety of equipment maintains work records in CityWorks and assists with inventory management.

Work is performed primarily in the field and requires working in confined spaces excavation trenches around live traffic and near heavy equipment while following established safety procedures. This position participates in a rotating on-call schedule and responds to emergency callouts as needed.

Experience Knowledge Skills:

Minimum Requirements

All Levels:

• High school diploma or GED.
• Valid unrestricted drivers license.
• Basic knowledge of methods materials tools and equipment used in utility construction and maintenance.
• Ability to safely operate hand tools power tools and light-to-heavy equipment.
• Willingness to participate in a rotating on-call schedule.
• Ability to respond to after-hours emergencies within 45 minutes when required.

Maintenance Technician:

• Zero (0) to six (6) months of related experience.
• Entry-level position requiring the ability to learn water distribution maintenance practices through on-the-job training.

Water Systems Technician I

• One (1) year of related experience.
• Colorado Water Distribution Operator Level 1 Certification.

Water Systems Technician II

• Two (2) years of related experience.
• Colorado Water Distribution Operator Level 2 Certification.

Water Systems Technician III

• Three (3) years of related experience.
• Colorado Water Distribution Operator Level 3 Certification.

Water Systems Technician IV

• Four (4) years of related experience.
• Colorado Water Distribution Operator Level 4 Certification.

Preferred Qualifications

• Current Class A Commercial Drivers License (CDL) or the ability to obtain within one (1) year of hire.
• Experience in water distribution utilities public works construction sewer or street maintenance.
• Mechanical maintenance or repair experience.
• Experience working safely in or around active roadways and traffic control zones.
• Knowledge of confined space entry procedures excavation safety and trench safety.
• Experience operating construction or utility maintenance equipment.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

• Ability to read and interpret maps electrical schematics technical drawings and use measuring instruments.

• Ability to learn and apply job-related procedures through training instruction and observation.

• Ability to follow established safety policies procedures and safe work practices.

• Ability to participate in an on-call rotation as required.

• Knowledge of Colorado municipal government operations and organizational structures.

• Strong communication interpersonal and collaboration skills with the ability to build effective working relationships.

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office (including Outlook and Teams) CityWorks and the ability to learn new software and technology.

• Strong organizational time management and problem-solving skills with the ability to prioritize work manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.

• Ability to demonstrate professionalism initiative adaptability and effectively work with diverse stakeholders in a complex organizational and political environment.

Essential Functions:

• Installs repairs and maintains pressure reducing valves (PRVs) fire hydrants air vacuum valves water valves and related water distribution system components.
• Performs utility locates in compliance with Colorado 811 requirements.
• Conducts maintenance and repairs on water distribution infrastructure and investigates customer complaints related to water quality including color taste and odor.
• Flushes and cleans water valves and fire hydrant lines as part of the annual preventative maintenance program.
• Maintains inventory of materials equipment and supplies.
• Operates hand tools power tools pickup trucks loaders dump trucks and other equipment necessary to complete assigned work.
• Performs work in confined spaces excavation trenches and around heavy equipment while following established safety procedures.
• Maintains accurate maintenance records work logs inventory documentation and completes work orders in CityWorks.
• Performs site cleanup following maintenance and construction activities.
• Participates in an on-call rotation and responds to emergency callouts as required.

Supervisory Responsibilities: None.

Travel: Regular Local/Field Based Travel:This position requires regular travel within the County and nearby cities. Employees frequently travel to field sites client locations or other City building as part of their job duties. Access to a personal or City fleet vehicle may be required.

Work Environment:

• Work is performed primarily outdoors throughout the Citys water distribution system including streets easements utility corridors construction sites and water system facilities with occasional indoor work in maintenance shops and storage facilities.
• Routinely exposed to all weather conditions including extreme heat cold rain snow ice and changing environmental conditions.
• Regularly works around and operates heavy equipment and vehicles including pickup trucks dump trucks loaders excavators compressors pumps and other construction and maintenance equipment with exposure to loud noise vibration dust fumes and potentially hazardous materials.
• Performs work in and around active roadways construction zones excavations confined spaces and pressurized water distribution infrastructure while following established safety procedures traffic control requirements and using appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
• May be exposed to standing water mud biological hazards chemicals used in water system maintenance and other environmental contaminants while performing maintenance and emergency repairs.
• Work requires traversing uneven terrain entering trenches vaults valve boxes and confined spaces and occasionally working at elevations using ladders or other access equipment.
• Position requires participation in an on-call rotation and may require extended shifts overtime evenings weekends holidays and emergency response during water main breaks service interruptions severe weather events and other emergency situations.

Physical Requirements:

• Mobility: Ability to frequently walk stand climb crawl and navigate uneven terrain active roadways traffic control zones trenches vaults confined spaces and other work environments.
• Strength: Ability to lift carry push and pull up to 50 pounds regularly and up to 80 pounds occasionally with assistance when needed.
• Endurance: Ability to perform physically demanding work for extended periods in varying weather conditions and around active traffic heavy equipment and other environmental hazards while maintaining safety and productivity.
• Dexterity: Ability to safely operate hand tools power tools heavy equipment and perform tasks requiring fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination.
• Flexibility: Ability to bend stoop kneel crouch reach climb and work in confined or awkward positions to perform maintenance and repair activities.
• Vision and Hearing: Ability to distinguish colors read gauges maps plans and electronic displays and hear verbal instructions alarms approaching traffic equipment and other surrounding hazards.
