The Maintenance/Construction Technician III is responsible for ensuring that all facilities at the North Carolina Justice Academy are maintained in a high state of readiness. This role performs skilled work across multiple tradesincluding plumbing mechanical and structural systemswhile supporting preventative maintenance repairs and campus improvement initiatives. The position also plays a key role in maintaining safety functionality and security across campus buildings and infrastructure.
Some travel including some occasional overnight stays are required
The selected candidate is subject to a background investigation.
The North Carolina Justice Academy (with campuses in Edneyville and Salemburg) provides basic intermediate and advanced training for law enforcement officers on topics including anti-terrorism community-oriented policing criminal investigation traffic crash investigation firearms self-defense and management and supervision. Additionally the Academy provides basic intermediate and advanced training for Detention Officers and Telecommunicators on behalf of the North Carolina Sheriffs Education and Training Standards Commission.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences
- Experience with plumbing mechanical systems and/or general construction practices.
- Experience diagnosing and/or repairing a wide range of facility-related issues.
Minimum Education and Experience

High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and two (2) years of progressive experience in the assigned trade areas; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Necessary Special Qualification: May require current certification by the Environmental Protection Agency as a Type I II III or Universal technician as required by Title 40 Code of Federal Regulations Part 82 Subpart F.
