Job Overview
The job of Locksmith was established for the purpose/s of maintaining security systems of facilities; making necessary repairs to systems; instructing personnel on the proper use of security systems; and ensuring completion of jobs in a timely manner without disruption of school operations.
This job reports to Fire/Security Foreman.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Coordinates with administration and other trades for the purpose of completing projects/work orders efficiently and/or maintaining key control systems.
Diagnoses malfunctions of lock security systems for the purpose of identifying repair/replacement needs necessary to maintain systems this also includes adjusting doors to get locking mechanisms aligned.
Installs security systems (e.g. door and window locks combination locks cabinet and desk locks and hardware; panic hardware; etc.) for the purpose of providing security of facilities equipment and supplies.
Maintains files records and key systems (e.g. time and material usage on work orders) for the purpose of maintaining an up-to-date reference trail and/or key control.
Maintains tools and/or equipment (e.g. key machines vehicle servicing etc.) for the purpose of ensuring the availability of equipment in safe operating condition.
Originates/Duplicates keys (e.g. code impression etc.) for the purpose of ensuring that locks and hardware installed meet fire building ADA and other code requirements.
Prepares documentation for the purpose of providing written support and/or conveying information.
Repairs various items systems and/or components (e.g. door locks-knowledge of pinning and rekeying of the cyclinder cabinet and desk locks and hardware etc.) for the purpose of ensuring that items are available and in safe working condition.
Requests equipment and supplies for the purpose of maintaining inventory and ensuring availability of required items.
Responds to emergency situations for the purpose of resolving immediate safety concerns.
Transports various items (e.g. tools equipment supplies etc.) for the purpose of ensuring the availability of materials required at the job site.
Attendance is an Essential Function of this Position:Physical presence at the worksite is an essential function of this position. The role requires in-person collaboration direct interaction with team members other staff students and/or guardians and access to on-site equipment and resources.
Other Duties and Responsibilities
Assists other personnel as may be required for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities.
Assists with snow removal (e.g. shovels operating snow blower and/or snowplow etc.) for the purpose of ensuring a safe environment.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
Very heavy work: Exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally and/or in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. The work also requires the following physical abilities in order to perform the essential job functions; balancing climbing crawling crouching feeling fingering grasping handling hearing kneeling lifting mental acuity pulling pushing reaching repetitive motion speaking standing stooping talking visual acuity and walking.
Employees in this position work in a dynamic environment that requires them to be sensitive to change and responsive to changing goals priorities and needs.
Qualifications
Must be able to operate equipment used in trade.
Must have knowledge of inner working mechanisms of district locks and door control hardware; correct procedures in setting up single key to multi-level master key systems; safety practices and procedures; and health standards and hazards.
Must be able to identify key-ways and key blanks by manufacturer key number; adapting to changing work priorities; and meeting deadlines and schedules.
Experience: Previous related experience within specialized field is required.
Education: High school diploma or equivalent is required.
