Garden City Healthcare Center
Pay Range: $22.00$23.00 per hour based on experience

Garden City Healthcare Center is seeking an experienced dependable and safety-focused Maintenance Director to lead our Maintenance Department. This position plans organizes develops and directs facility maintenance operations to ensure a safe comfortable sanitary and well-maintained environment for residents employees and visitors.

The Maintenance Director works closely with the Administrator and department leaders while ensuring compliance with facility policies and all applicable federal state and local regulations.

Essential Responsibilities
  • Plan organize implement evaluate and direct the Maintenance Department and its daily operations
  • Develop and maintain preventive maintenance schedules policies procedures and inspection records
  • Perform routine facility rounds and ensure maintenance assignments are completed accurately and promptly
  • Inspect resident rooms common areas storage rooms workrooms utility closets equipment and facility grounds
  • Coordinate maintenance services with Nursing Dietary Activities Housekeeping and other departments
  • Maintain and monitor mechanical electrical plumbing heating cooling boiler compressor and generator systems
  • Identify maintenance concerns and arrange for timely repairs
  • Ensure services performed by outside vendors are properly completed and supervised according to contracts and work orders
  • Maintain productive working relationships with vendors contractors department leaders residents and families
  • Promptly report equipment or facility damage to the Administrator
  • Supervise fire-prevention emergency-preparedness and workplace-safety programs
  • Inspect work areas and equipment regularly to identify and correct potential hazards
  • Ensure employees follow established safety procedures and properly use required protective equipment
  • Maintain Material Safety Data Sheets and ensure hazardous chemicals are properly labeled stored and handled
  • Develop and implement infection-control and universal-precaution procedures for maintenance operations
  • Ensure maintenance employees receive appropriate safety infection-control and hazardous-material training
  • Assist with developing the department budget and monitor expenses supplies labor and equipment costs
  • Maintain accurate financial inspection repair and preventive maintenance records
  • Participate in facility surveys and inspections conducted by authorized agencies
  • Develop and implement plans of correction for maintenance deficiencies identified during surveys
  • Ensure medical waste is handled and disposed of according to facility procedures
  • Maintain the confidentiality of resident information including protected health information
  • Remain prepared to respond to facility emergencies and adjust maintenance schedules as necessary
Supervisory Responsibilities
  • Direct and supervise Maintenance Department personnel
  • Assign work and monitor employees performance and productivity
  • Conduct regular department meetings and provide training and guidance
  • Evaluate staff competency and address performance or service concerns
  • Ensure appropriate staffing and coverage for routine and emergency maintenance needs
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Minimum of three years of supervisory experience in a maintenance or plant-related position
  • Healthcare skilled nursing or long-term care maintenance experience strongly preferred
  • Knowledge of boilers compressors generators and mechanical electrical plumbing and building systems
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints diagrams work orders and equipment manuals
  • Knowledge of applicable building codes fire-safety requirements and workplace regulations
  • Ability to make independent decisions and solve practical problems
  • Strong leadership communication organizational and customer-service skills
  • Ability to interact professionally with residents families employees vendors visitors and government representatives
  • Must maintain any licenses or certifications required by applicable standards codes and labor laws
  • Must be available to assist with emergencies and on-call needs as required
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to sit stand walk bend reach and move throughout the facility
  • Ability to occasionally lift or move up to 25 pounds
  • Ability to use hand tools maintenance equipment computers telephones and standard office equipment
  • Ability to assist with resident evacuation during an emergency if necessary
