Job Description:
Position sets up and operates a variety of machine tools such as lathes milling machines precision grinders etc. to make parts mechanisms tools or machines to exacting tolerances and dimensions.
Essential Functions:
This position interprets blueprints sketches and engineering specifications; determine sequence of operations number of cuts required and method of setup and arrangement; work with a variety of machinists hand tools and precision measuring instruments; make shop computations; and fit and put together precision parts and determine material parts and equipment required.
Fabricates piece parts per work instructions drawings and specifications through the use of required machine tools.
Inspects piece parts per work instruction and drawing requirements.
Sets up and operates machine tools. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Ability to run machine shop equipment such as lathes CNC milling machines precision grinders etc. to make parts to exacting tolerances and dimensions.
Uses adjusts cleans and stores the tools machinery and equipment used.
Keeps records and reports of the use of equipment.
Other duties as assigned.
Ability to obtain a US security clearance.
Qualifications:
Requires a High School Diploma or equivalent and a minimum of 4 years of prior relevant experience or 2 years post-Secondary/Associates Degree with 0 to 2 years of prior related experience.
Preferred Additional Skills:
A trade school certification or state-licensed Journeyman Machinist certification is strongly desired.
Manual machining experience is preferred.
Working knowledge of setting up the operation of milling machines and lathes.
Working knowledge of engineering drawings blueprints production plans and/or work instructions.
Working knowledge performing in-process inspection of finished parts utilizing appropriate inspection and gaging equipment.
Knowledge of industry applicable laws codes ordinances and regulations.
Knowledge of machine tools and equipment machine shop procedures and practices principals and properties. Knowledge of basic mathematic principles to solve problems.
The ability to work in a team environment and relate to all levels of employees.
Experience as a manual machinist on a conventional lathe and CNC machining in an industrial / manufacturing environment.
