Position Overview
VIP Systems is seeking an experienced Low Voltage Service Technician to join our growing Service Division. This position is responsible for diagnosing repairing maintaining and commissioning commercial low-voltage systems while providing exceptional service to our customers.
The ideal candidate is a self-motivated technician with strong troubleshooting skills extensive field experience and a solid understanding of IP-based technologies. You should be comfortable working independently communicating directly with customers and solving complex technical issues while maintaining the highest standards of workmanship and professionalism.
Key Responsibilities
Service & Troubleshooting
- Diagnose troubleshoot repair and maintain commercial low-voltage systems.
- Respond to scheduled and emergency service calls in a timely and professional manner.
- Perform preventive maintenance inspections firmware updates system backups and operational testing.
- Identify causes of system failures and recommend appropriate corrective actions.
Access Control
- Install configure troubleshoot and service access control systems including:
- Controllers
- Card readers
- Electric strikes
- Magnetic locks
- Request-to-Exit (REX) devices
- Automatic door operators
- Intercom systems
- Associated hardware and software
- Controllers
Video Surveillance (CCTV)
- Install configure and troubleshoot IP and analog surveillance systems.
- Configure cameras NVRs PoE switches recording systems and remote viewing applications.
- Perform camera alignment image optimization recording verification and system health checks.
Networking & IP Systems
- Configure and troubleshoot IP networks supporting low-voltage systems.
- Configure managed switches VLANs DHCP static IP addressing PoE VPN connectivity and basic firewall/router settings.
- Diagnose network communication issues affecting connected devices.
Structured Cabling
- Install terminate test label certify and document:
- Cat5e
- Cat6
- Cat6A
- Coaxial cable
- Fiber-optic cabling
- Cat5e
- Maintain high-quality installation standards in accordance with industry best practices.
Audio/Visual Systems
- Install configure and service commercial audio/visual systems including:
- Distributed audio
- Amplifiers
- Speakers
- Flat-panel displays
- Digital signage
- Video conferencing systems
- Control systems
- Distributed audio
Documentation & Customer Service
- Read and interpret construction drawings riser diagrams wiring schematics specifications and manufacturer documentation.
- Complete service tickets testing records photographs material usage and daily reports accurately and on time.
- Communicate professionally with customers property managers project managers and other trades.
- Provide customers with system operation guidance and basic user training when appropriate.
Safety & Equipment
- Maintain assigned company vehicle tools test equipment and service inventory.
- Follow OSHA regulations company safety policies and applicable electrical and low-voltage codes.
- Maintain a clean organized and professional job site.
Requirements
Required Qualifications
Experience
- Minimum 2-3 years of hands-on experience servicing commercial low-voltage systems.
- Proven experience independently troubleshooting and repairing integrated building technologies.

- Experience using web-based equipment interfaces and mobile service applications.
- Ability to update firmware configure devices and perform software diagnostics.

- Valid Florida drivers license with an acceptable driving record.

- Comfortable working on ladders lifts and elevated work platforms.
- Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.

Required Skills:
Minimum three (3) years of hands-on experience with commercial low-voltage systems. Strong troubleshooting skills in access control CCTV/IP video structured cabling audio/visual and networking. Ability to configure managed network switches and diagnose IP communication issues. Working knowledge of Windows operating systems web-based equipment interfaces and mobile applications. Ability to use common test equipment including cable testers multimeters network tools and tone generators. Ability to work independently prioritize service calls and complete assignments with limited supervision. Professional communication customer service and documentation skills. Valid Florida drivers license and acceptable driving record. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and work safely from ladders lifts and elevated areas. Software Proficiency: Expert-level knowledge of AutoCAD. Experience with Revit (BIM) or Bluebeam Revu is highly desirable. Technical Knowledge: A solid understanding of low-voltage symbols construction scales and architectural layering. Communication: Bilingual (English/Spanish) is preferred.
