Job Summary
**Availability:**
- **Dates:** 11/27 at 8:00 AM through 12/4 at 8:00 AM- *
*Extended Dates:** 12/25 at 8:00 AM through 1/4/2027 at 8:00 AM-
**Requirement:** One locum physician needed to cover both periods.
**Minimum Qualifications:**
- A minimum of 100 colonoscopies performed in the last 12 months including at least 20 polypectomies.
- At least 25 esophagogastroduodenoscopies (EGDs) performed in the last 12 months.-
**Clinical Responsibilities:**The role demands expertise in endoscopic procedures requiring the candidate to currently perform a high volume of scopes.
The position offers a comprehensive scope of practice typical of rural community surgeons encompassing:
- **Office-Based General Surgery Services:**
- Initial consultations for prevalent general surgery concerns. - Execution of minor procedures.
- Patient and family education and counseling.
- Ordering diagnostic tests and facilitating referrals to relevant specialties.
- Coordination with primary care providers (PCPs).
**Common Diagnoses Encountered:**
- Inguinal and umbilical hernias
- Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) and associated symptoms- Rectal bleeding
- Cholecystitis- Colon polyps and screening for colorectal cancer- Hemorrhoids
- Sebaceous cysts- Dysphagia- Breast pathology
- Diverticulitis- Skin lesions including malignancies
**Procedural Competencies Required:**
- **Operative and Endoscopic Procedures:**
- Anal sphincterotomy - Anoscopy - Appendectomies (primarily in adults with rare cases in ages 10-18 and selective for ages 5-10)
- Breast procedures including ultrasound-guided biopsies I&D of breast abscesses fine needle aspirations lumpectomies mastectomies and sentinel lymph node biopsies
- Colonoscopies (screening surveillance and diagnostic) - Cholecystectomies
- Colon surgeries encompassing partial colectomies sigmoid resections ostomy creation/takedown and interventions for indications like colon cancer and diverticular disease
- Debridement of burns ulcers or wounds
- EGDs (risk screening surveillance diagnostics and therapeutic for UGI bleeding or esophageal food bolus)
- Exam under anesthesia
- Removal of foreign bodies
- Hemorrhoid management (hemorrhoidectomy and rubber band ligation)
- Hernia repairs (inguinal umbilical ventral and incisional)
- Intra-abdominal procedures including laparoscopic exploration lysis of adhesions Nissen fundoplication repair of perforated duodenal ulcers and small bowel resections
- Placement of PEG (Percutaneous Endoscopic Gastrostomy) and feeding tubes
- Skin and soft tissue interventions such as excision of large lesions I&D of significant abscesses pilonidal cystectomies complex laceration repairs split-thickness skin grafts and temporal artery biopsies
- Limited vascular procedures including toe amputations Mediport placements/removals and optional vein stripping.
